About the book

Noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) have made a huge impact on RNA biology. ncRNAs play an important role in regulating gene expression in animals, plants, and various cancer types. Plant ncRNAs play a key role in development, signal transduction, response to environmental stress, and pathogen invasion. Animal and human ncRNAs differ considerably from plant ncRNAs in their biogenesis and function, and regulate cell differentiation, development, and homeostasis. Alteration of ncRNAs function results in various diseases including cancer. Since some of the ncRNAs are known to participate in all types of cancer and function as oncogenes or tumor-suppressors, they have the potential power to be researched as prognostic and diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic molecules. Although bioinformatics plays a big part in analyzing ncRNAs, they also need to be experimentally verified in a laboratory. A range of biotechniques has been developed to overcome the challenges of ncRNA profiling including qPCR, miRNA arrays, and RNA sequencing. The rapid expansion of miRNA research accompanied by big data leads to extensive efforts in ncRNA bioinformatics and databases.

This book aims to provide an overview of current knowledge on ncRNA research through ncRNA biogenesis and mechanisms of action, cancer and human diseases, animal and plant ncRNAs, bioinformatics, and experimental techniques.

Potential authors submit chapter proposals ready for review by the academic editor and our publishing review team.

Approved chapters written in full and submitted

Deadline for full chapters: February 20th 2022

Once approved by the academic editor and publishing review team, chapters are written and submitted according to pre-agreed parameters

Full chapters peer reviewed

Review results due: May 11th 2022

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: July 10th 2022

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.
