The genus Capsicum consists of chilli pepper and its name is used commonly interchangeably with chile and paprika. Chili pepper (Capsicum spp.) is used as a spice, flavour enhancer, vegetable and component in herbal medicine. Chili pepper fruits has anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antidiabetic, antimicrobial, anticholesteremic, anticlotting and antioxidant activities. The detailed studies conducted on the phytochemicals in chili pepper fruits have reported an array of anticancer effects on leukemia, myeloma and various carcinomas associated with the digestive tract. Additionally, capsaicinoids and glucosinolates isolated from Capcium species have biocidal activity against phytophagous insects which attack important crops. This book will be focusing on chemical constituents reported from this plant, their biological activities and applications as pharmaceutical, food and in crop protection.
