About the book
This book aims to find possible answers to questions regarding the new-coming era of future vehicles. The wide spread of electric vehicles (EV) is related to underwater, on-water, land, and air route pathways. Specific research fields for electric marine vehicles include: submersible, submarine, craft, boats, seagoing navy, and autonomous underwater vehicle. The air vehicles research fields are highlighted in relation to electric aircraft: power systems, flight control, and power electronics. Finally, for the land or ground vehicles: unmanned ground vehicle, autonomy, navigation system, perception, path planning, control.
The authors and researchers are invited to share their experience regarding the main barriers in electric vehicle implementation, their thoughts on electric vehicle modelling and control, and network communication challenges during research investigation. Authors are recommended, but not limited, to share on: the status of the current types of EV (Battery Electric Vehicle, Hybrid Electric Vehicle, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle, Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle), communication networks, cyber-physical infrastructure, intelligent vehicle control, future technology, propulsion systems, and environmental consideration. Both the local and global impact of electric vehicle penetration in the community could be underlined. The government agencies are invited to harmonize the possible measures in order to diminish the emission of gaseous and particulate pollutants from the traditional vehicles, and to share the potential specific incentives in the electric vehicle field starting from manufacturing process to buyers’ incentives. Taking into account the degree of pollution of the batteries in the manufacturing and maintenance cycle, new technologies to reduce environmental pollution can be highlighted. At the same time, battery life-cycle and charging solutions are other challenges in the field. The harmonization of the modern electric vehicles with the smart grids is another challenge to be explored. The EV interact with the grid in different technological ways; the vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology comprises different pathways of the electric grid interactions such as: vehicle to grid (V2G), vehicle to home (V2H), vehicle to load (V2L), vehicle to vehicle (V2V), vehicle to building (V2B), and value of lost load (VoLL). The main subsystems of the EV (energy source, electric propulsion, auxiliaries) are also attractive subjects that may be debated in the book. Inclusion of the Artificial Intelligence field (Machine learning, Deep learning, Convolutional Neural Networks) is encouraged.
