About the book

Over time, e-learning has evolved and changed the landscape of learning. Due to emerging learning technologies, e-learning became very diverse in its forms and applications in education and training. As a result, blended learning and ODL (open and distance learning/online distance learning) are increasingly being used in formal, non-formal and informal education programs across the globe. To facilitate continuous improvements, flexibility, and accessibility in e-learning, it is essential to understand the challenges and opportunities by exploring current theories, policies, and practices.

This edited book is aiming to compile works of educators, developers, and practitioners from various disciplines to highlight significant elements of e-learning. Book initiated and editor appointed

Date completed: June 12th 2020

Applications to edit the book are assessed and a suitable editor is selected, at which point the process begins.

Chapter proposals submitted and reviewed

Deadline Extended: Open for Submissions

Potential authors submit chapter proposals ready for review by the academic editor and our publishing review team.

Approved chapters written in full and submitted

Deadline for full chapters: September 1st 2020

Once approved by the academic editor and publishing review team, chapters are written and submitted according to pre-agreed parameters

Full chapters peer reviewed

Review results due: November 20th 2020

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: January 19th 2021

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

Dr. M. Mahruf C. Shohel is an ODL Course Convenor at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex. Prior to joining the IDS, he was a Lecturer in Education and International Development at the School of Education, Aberystwyth University. He was also an Honorary Research Fellow at the College of Social Sciences, University of Glasgow, an Honorary Visiting Fellow at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Leicester, a Researcher at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge and a Visiting Scholar at the Centre for Pedagogy, Faculty of Education and Society, University of Sunderland. Dr. Shohel has worked as a Research Fellow at the Centre for Research in Education and Educational Technology (CREET), Faculty of Education and Language Studies, The Open University (OU), UK. During his tenure at the OU, he worked on the ‘English in Action’, a large-scale DFID funded project from January 2009 to May 2011. Then from 2011 to 2014, he worked to make contribution to the CREET's REF submission. During his doctoral study, he also worked as a Residential Tutor and Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) at the University of Manchester. Dr. Shohel carried out his postgraduate research on computer-assisted language learning (CALL) and doctoral research on school transition, especially focused on the transition from non-formal to formal education sector using Bronfenbrenner’s ecological theory as a theoretical framework. He has also worked with BRAC, the world's largest NGO, several times as a Research Intern during his doctoral research. He initiated and co-facilitated a research group that was focusing on fieldwork research in the global south based in Manchester. The group worked on fieldwork research as well as inclusive education and contributed to different conferences. In 2007, Dr. Shohel was a Guest Lecturer at the University of Helsinki, Finland. He was a Visiting Fellow at the Innocenti Research Centre (IRC), UNICEF Office of Research, Florence, Italy in 2012. Currently, he is engaged with carrying out research on a higher education learning journey of individual students, technology-enhanced learning, sustainable development, teachers’ professional development, and English language teaching and learning, childhood poverty and educational exclusion, education for disadvantaged children including sex workers' children and working children in the global south.

Introducing your Author Service Manager

Ms. Jasna Bozic

As an Author Service Manager, my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
