About the book

Good relationship between the somatosensory function and motor function, is very much needed. This book will consist of numerous researches in several different fields, especially those researchers in the field of physical therapy, occupational therapy, in the rehabilitation medicine, and so on. First topic will cover the motor imagery and observation using somatosensory. Motor imagery and motor observation are used in the field of rehabilitation. Recently, the importance of somatosensory for motor imagery and motor observation, has been shown. Second topic will be: the change of motor function and neural function during contralateral motor practice. SEP and F-wave during contralateral movement are important. Third topic in the book will cover the rehabilitation for sensory function disorders. Physical therapy, occupational therapy and other rehabilitation methods using sensory stimulation in patients with neurological disease will be explained.

This book will discuss the relationship between somatosensory function and motor function using many scientific research. From this book, we will understand new methods of rehabilitation based on scientific research in neurological diseases and other diseases.

Toshiaki Suzuki

Kansai University of Health Sciences

Toshiaki Suzuki, DMSc, is a physical therapist and presently a professor at the Graduate School of Kansai University of Health Sciences, Osaka, Japan. As an instructor at the Department of Physical Therapy, College of Medical Technology, Kyoto University (1987–1994), he learned electromyography methods from Tetsuji Fujiwara, MD, and Jun Kimura, MD, professors emeriti (Kyoto University). He has extensively studied electromyography’s use in physical therapy. His interests include fundamental research on the effects of neurological physical therapy using electromyography, especially spinal neural function using evoked F-wave electromyography and the development of Acupoint Stimulation Physical Therapy (ASPT), which combines physical therapy and acupuncture. The effect of ASPT is being investigated using electromyography and is expected to develop into a new physical therapy method. He has many original publications and books on these subjects.

Introducing your Author Service Manager

Mr. Nino Popovic

As an Author Service Manager my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review, to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
