About the book

Product design is a comprehensive process related to the creation of new products, which starts from a set of ideas and concepts, and finally results in marketable products that meet specific requirements related to functionality, manufacturing, maintenance, reliability, ergonomics, efficiency, and, last but not least, cost. This book intends to be an open platform destined to establish and share knowledge from all over the world about the product design process, with applications in various fields, especially the engineering ones. The book will provide a forum for original and innovative research studies dealing with any relevant aspect of product design, being addressed to scholars, researchers, engineers, PhD students, and to all those professionally active and/or interested in this challenging topic. For it will exhaustively contribute in knowledge advances, the book will be especially dedicated to the most recent techniques for a successful product design, as well as to the most suitable software applications. “Product Design” intends to provide the reader with a comprehensive overview of the current state-of-the-art, but also with the modern trends in the field.

Applications to edit the book are assessed and a suitable editor is selected, at which point the process begins.

Potential authors submit chapter proposals ready for review by the academic editor and our publishing review team.

Approved chapters written in full and submitted

Deadline for full chapters: May 26th 2020

Once approved by the academic editor and publishing review team, chapters are written and submitted according to pre-agreed parameters

Full chapters peer reviewed

Review results due: August 14th 2020

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: October 13th 2020

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

Transylvania University of Brașov

Cătălin Alexandru is a professor at the Transylvania University of Braşov (Romania), within the Product Design, Mechatronics and Environment Department. His teaching and research activity centers mainly on modeling, simulation, optimization and testing of mechanical and mechatronic systems. Dr. Alexandru is a PhD Supervisor in Mechanical Engineering, and he is currently the director of the University Doctoral Council. He is also the coordinator of the virtual prototyping laboratory at the Design of Mechanical Elements and Systems Research Center. He has published more than 250 scientific papers in mainstream journals, books chapters, and conference proceedings. He currently serves as an editor of the Bulletin of Transilvania University of Braşov - Series I: Engineering Sciences. Dr. Alexandru is a member of the International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science (IFToMM), as well as of the International University Association for Science and Technology of Romania (UASTRO). In 2012 he edited the book Modeling and Simulation in Engineering.

Introducing your Author Service Manager

Ms. Dolores Kuzelj

As an Author Service Manager my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review, to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
