About the book

Microwave signals are electromagnetic waves that oscillate at the higher end of the radio waveband, between 300 MHz and 300 GHz. Since James Clerk Maxwell established the four sets of formulations that unified electricity and magnetism in 1873 and Heinrich Rudolf Hertz validated the formulations in the late 1800s, the development of microwave devices has progressed in leaps and bounds. Signals operating within this frequency range find wide applications in diverse fields, particularly in the telecommunication, biomedical, food, industrial, and radio astronomical realms. While some of these microwave technologies, such as the 5G telecommunication devices, wireless power transmission, and radio interferometers, are seemingly precocious, others, such as television broadcasts, radars, and microwave ovens, have existed for quite some time. Indeed, our daily lives are intertwined seamlessly with these technologies. Wherever we are and whatever we are doing today, there are certainly microwave technologies that we rely indispensably on upon.

This book provides an extensive elucidation of recent microwave technologies, including their technological advancements, underlying principles, design and fabrication processes, development challenges, applications, etc.

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: June 27th 2022

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

Dr. Kishk works at Concordia University, Montréal, Québec, Canada (since 2011) as a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Advanced Antenna Systems. His research interests include the areas of millimeter-wave antennas for 5G/6G applications, analog beamforming network, dielectric resonator antennas, microstrip antennas, small antennas, microwave sensors, RFID antennas for readers and tags, multi-function antennas, microwave circuits, EBG, artificial magnetic conductors, soft and hard surfaces, phased array antennas, reflect/transmitarray, wearable antennas, and feeds for parabolic reflectors. He has published over 380-refereed journal articles and 510 conference papers. He is co-author of four books and several book chapters and the editor of four books and thirteen patents. He offered several short courses at international conferences. Prof. Kishk and his students received several awards: the 1995 and 2006 outstanding paper awards for papers published in the Applied Computational Electromagnetic Society Journal, the 1997 Outstanding Engineering Educator Award from the Memphis section of the IEEE, the Outstanding Engineering Faculty Member of the Year in 1998 and 2009, Faculty research award for outstanding research performance in 2001 and 2005, the Microwave Theory and Techniques Society, Microwave Prize 2004, the 2013 Chen-To Tai Distinguished Educator Award of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society in recognition 'for contributions and continuous improvements to teaching and research to prepare students for future careers in antennas and microwave circuits'. Dr. Kishk is a Fellow of IEEE since 1998, a Fellow member of the Electromagnetic Academy and the Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society (ACES). He was an AP-S AdCom and AP-S distinguished lecturer (2013-2015) and the 2017 AP-S president.
