During the past decades the emerging field of micro- and nano-fluidics has attracted tremendous research interest worldwide and a great progress has been made particularly in their fabrication, performance and applications. Consequently, many applications and commercial production of numerous microfluidic systems and devices are available today. However, this multidisciplinary field is in its infancy and there are many important areas where these new technologies and their real-world applications can radically improve performance and quality of life.
This book will cover a wide range of important areas of micro- and nano-fluidic systems and devices starting from fundamentals, theories and principles, and cutting-age microfabrication technologies to its applications in energy, lab-on-chip, and biomedicine. It will also present the current state of the art research and advances of this emerging field besides performance evaluation of these technologies through experimental and numerical means. This book will provide an interdisciplinary approach to the readership and is expected to be of interest to anyone involved in studying, research, design and fabrication, or manufacturing micro- and nano-scaled fluidic devices and systems.
