About the book
As a formal definition from “International Organization for Standardization”, service robots are robots that perform useful tasks for humans or equipment excluding industrial automation applications. From this perspective, the service robotics covers a very wide area including; personal, agriculture, logistic, medical and defense robots. Automated vacuum cleaners, lawn mover robots, automated guided vehicles for warehouses or intelligent wheelchairs are some of the examples of this field. All these types of robots have different levels of autonomy and they become smarter using artificial intelligence techniques day by day. Parallel to this improvement, the service robotics market has been growing very rapidly especially during the last few years. Authors are invited to submit their chapters on state of the art service robotics research and applications. The chapters may include but will not be limited to; the mechanical/electrical design, algorithm development for autonomy, human robot interaction (HRI) and control of the service robots. This book intends to show the reader the state of the art research and applications of different types of service robotics.
