About the book

Acidophiles are microorganisms thrive in acidic conditions (pH 3.0 and below), and distributed in three domains of Archaea, Bacteria, and Eukarya. Acidophiles attract the basic research and have various applications for their peculiar physiology and functions. This book deals with various areas of Acidophiles of Bacteria and Archaea from basic knowledge and researches to applications. It has V parts. Part I. Energy metabolism and regulation mechanisms. This part mainly deals with the sulfur and iron metabolisms of Acidobacillus and sulfur metabolism of Archaea as well as the metabolic regulations. Part II. Synthetic metabolism and regulation mechanisms. This part deals with the cell synthesis especially the carbon fixation pathway and regulations of the autrophism of the Bacteria and Archaea. Part III. Mechanisms for adaptations to the environments. This part deals with the cell adaptation mechanisms to low pH, high temperature, high heavy metal concentrations etc. Part IV. Community dynamics and microbiome research. This part deals with the community dynamic changes with the changes of the environmental conditions revealed by microbiome methods. Part V. Applications and prospects. This part deals with the applications of Acidophiles in biomining, environmental protection, synthetic biology etc. and the prospects in future.

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Expected publication date: June 25th 2021

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Jian-qiang Lin is Professor of State Key Laboratory of Microbial Technology, Shandong University since 2003. He got his Ph.D. in 1998 under a China-Japan cooperation program on Ph.D. education and finished his thesis research in Osaka University, Japan; acted as a visiting researcher in Inha University, Korea (2000). His research interests are molecular biology of Acidophiles, microbial technology and bioprocess engineering.
