Prof. ANDREJ ČRETNIK, MD, PhD, Med. Councillor, was born 1963 in Celje, Slovenia. He graduated from Medical Faculty, University in Ljubljana, Slovenia (1989). Dr. Čretnik became a Master of science (Msc) in 1999. (University in Ljubljana, Slovenia), Doctor of Sciences (PhD) (Medical sciences) in 2002. (University in Ljubljana, Slovenia). His additional education includes Royal Liverpool University Hospital (GB) (1994)( *Foot and Ankle Surgery, *Hip Surgery); Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota (USA) (1996) (*Spinal Surgery); Parkland Memorial Hospital, Dallas, Texas (USA) (1996) (*Pelvic Surgery), Trauma Shock Center, Baltimore, Maryland (USA) (1999)(*Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery). He is working as a Senior Consultant Surgeon, Department of Traumatology, Surgical Clinic, University Clinical Centre Maribor, Slovenia. Dr. Čretnik a member of Medicolegal expert (2004)( Ministry of justice, Slovenia), Medical councillor (2008)(Ministry of health, Slovenia), Medical Chamber Slovenia, Slovene Medical Association, Slovene Trauma Association (Vice-president), Slovene Medico-legal Experts Association, SQAA (Slovenia, National Evaluator), European Trauma Society, AO Trauma Society & AO Faculty (Arbeitsgruppe für Osteosynthesefragen, Davos, CH). He is also a chairman: Quality assurance committee (Medical Faculty, University in Maribor, Slovenia, Medico-legal experts committee, Medical Faculty, University in Maribor, Slovenia.

Achilles tendon has always attracted a great attention. Its disorders include various problems from pain and swelling with bumps to functional impairment or even ruptures. Debates concerning aetiology and optimal treatment are still going on. A lot of efforts and research have already been put on to find the answers to unsolved problems and this book is an attempt to share (some of) these findings to the readers. If only one of the papers helps the therapists or patients in understanding and solving their problems, we will consider that the mission of the book was accomplished.
