The attainment of a correct description of electronic structure is critical for predicting further electronic-related properties, including intermolecular interactions and formation energies. The chapter begins with an introduction to the formulation of density functional theory (DFT) functionals, while addressing the origin of bandgap problem with correlated materials. Then, the corrective approaches proposed to solve the DFT bandgap problem are reviewed, while comparing them in terms of accuracy and computational cost. The Hubbard model will then offer a simple approach to correctly describe the behavior of highly correlated materials, known as the Mott insulators. Based on Hubbard model, DFT+U scheme is built, which is computationally convenient for accurate calculations of electronic structures. Later in this chapter, the computational and semiempirical methods of optimizing the value of the Coulomb interaction potential (U) are discussed, while evaluating the conditions under which it can be most predictive. This method involves constructing from the ground-state orbitals, a new set of ‘occupied’ excited-state orbitals. Consequently, a constraint is applied to ensure that exactly one electron is fully transferred from the occupied to the virtual space. This constraint also prevents a collapse to a lower state. With this set of orbitals, one obtains an electron density for the excited-state and therewith the CV-DFT excitation energy. This excitation energy can now be variationally optimized. With our successful applications to systems differing in the type of excitation, namely, charge-transfer, charge-transfer in disguise, and Rydberg excitations, as well as in size, we demonstrate the strengths of the CV-DFT method. Therewith, CV-DFT provides a valid alternative to calculate excited-state properties, especially in cases where TD-DFT has difficulties. The isotropic chemical shielding values and anisotropies relevant to nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) can be calculated using gauge-invariant atomic orbitals (GIAOs); the calculation of spin-spin couplings is possible but time-consuming. For free radicals, hyperfine couplings and g tensors pertaining to EPR can be obtained. Regarding UV/vis spectra, wavelengths and oscillator strengths can be calculated by using a time-dependent Hamiltonian. In addition to gas-phase acidities, approximate pKa values can be obtained, provided that solvation is taken into account. Several sets of substituent parameters have been calculated: Hammett σ and σ+ parameters and inductive and mesomeric effects. The choice of those three systems was due to the fact that it is known in the scientific literature that these systems present very small differences in their relative energies which make a complicated experimental characterization, in addition these compounds are of interest in the biological area. These systems represent challenges not only from an experimental point of view but also from a theoretical point of view. From the theoretical perspective, this study is also complicated since several possible isomers with very similar energies are presented. The diagrams of species distribution (molar fractions) provide information that cannot be accessed through the electronic structure calculations at T = 0. Here, this tool was useful to identify the most probable isomer from several quasi-degenerate isomers and to discern if thermal effects favor any of them, as well as to find trends despite the different results of each level of theory. However, when N-substituted-N′-benzoylthioureas are treated with polymer-supported tribromide or with iodine-alumina as catalyst either under various conditions or under solvent free conditions, decomposition takes place to give the respective benzamides and thiobenzamides. Mechanistic study of the formation of these compounds is studied using DFT calculations. It is found that electron donating group at the para-position of the aryl group of benzoylthiourea favors the formation of benzamide whereas the presence of electron withdrawing group at para-position of the aryl group of benzoylthiourea, formation of thiobenzamide takes place. When the catalyst is changed to diacetoxyiodobenzene (DIB) under similar reaction conditions, benzoxazole amides are formed; expected benzothiazoles or the decomposition products are not obtained. Mechanistic study of the reaction using DFT calculation again shows that the reaction followed through carbodiimide intermediate undergoes the formation of C-O bond in benzoxazole moiety, instead of the expected C-S bond formation of benzothiazole moiety via a sequential acylation and deacylation process.",signatures:"Warjeet S. First, we investigate regular armchair, chiral, and zigzag nanotubes with bumpy defects (five- and seven-membered rings), finding that regular and defective zigzag nanotubes exhibit the greater conductive ability, reactivity, and capacity of nanotubes to be reduced. The bumpy defects favor those properties with greater intensity in chiral nanotubes. We also investigate how the properties of armchair nanotubes change in the presence of bumpy, haeckelite, Stone-Wales, and zipper defects, and we found that armchair nanotubes with zipper defects show greater reactivity and better conducting abilities enhanced by nitrogen doping and longer nanotubes. In addition, for armchair nanotubes containing bumpy defects, our results reveal, considering B3LYP-D3 correction, that bumpy defects confer a greater ability to physically adsorb hydrogen, with adsorption energies of 0.32 eV/adsorbed H2. That value is considered ideal for the reversible adsorption of hydrogen at room temperature and low pressures and therefore favorable for use as a clean energy source. The gypsum (chemical formula of CaSO4•2H2O) is an evaporite mineral and a kind of hydration product of anhydrite. Besides, the 11 Å tobermorite model (chemical formula: Ca4Si6O14(OH)4·2H2O) as an initial configuration of C-S-H structure is commonly used. Elastic constants are calculated based on density functional theory (DFT), which can also contribute to provide information for investigating the stability, stiffness, brittleness, ductility, and anisotropy of gypsum and tobermorite polycrystals. In addition, based on elastic constants (13 independent constants) of the monoclinic gypsum crystal, the elastic properties of polycrystals are obtained. The bulk modulus B, shear modulus G, Young’s modulus E, and Poisson’s ration ν are derived. Therefore, it is fairly meaningful to study the elastic constants to understand the physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of two monoclinic structures. Elastic constants can be used as the measure criterion of the resistance of a crystal to an externally applied stress. \r\n\tCardiovascular disease (CVD) is the largest contributor to death worldwide. Early studies demonstrated that high consumption of fat increased the risk for CVD and mortality. Subsequently, certain studies indicated that replacing a portion of saturated fatty acids with monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids decreased the risk for CVD. In addition, it has been shown that intake of saturated fat increases total cholesterol concentrations. However, cholesterol is found in a variety of components, such as low-density lipoprotein (LDL), very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) particles. The consumption of saturated fat tends to increase both LDL and HDL cholesterol concentrations. Interestingly, the intake of saturated fat has been reported to increase large LDL particles, which are less atherogenic, compared to small LDL particles. To add to the complexity, low-fat, high-carbohydrate diets likely increase triglyceride and decrease HDL concentrations.
\r\n\r\n\tFurthermore, the consumption of certain food components, including fiber, phytochemicals, micronutrients, and probiotics, may partially offset the individual effects of fatty acids on CVD risk factors. Other interesting and timely health topics regarding fat and fatty acids include seizures and depression. A high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet has been used to treat individuals who experience seizures. Additionally, some authors have indicated that omega-3 fatty acids may treat depression.
\r\n\r\n\tTherefore, the aim of this book will provide recent evidence on the effects of fat and fatty acid consumption on CVD risk, seizures, and depression.

There is a large amount of vehicles passing through in-service bridges every day, while sizable wind blows on the bridge decks. Vibrations caused by the service loads is of great theoretical and practical significance in civil engineering. In this Chapter we have revised some aspects of the response of viscoelastic foundation of bridges to a simplified model of moving loads and wind random perturbations. The results have been compared to the numerical solution for the modal equation, obtained with the deterministic and stochastic version of Newton-Leipnik algorithm. The analysis has begun modeling the steady-state vibration of the beam suspensions made of a fractional-order viscoelastic material. The resulting mathematical model consists of a component for the beam, and the Kelvin-Voigt foundation type containing fractional derivative of real order, as well as a stochastic term to account for wind pressure. We have highlighted the simplifications. Perhaps the most significant, in the very model formulation, has been the assumption that the load passage consists of concentrated masses, spatially periodic and moving at constant speed. This simplification is crucial to reduce the full partial differential equation to a single smode model — Wind load is modeled as the aerodynamic force related to the wind that blows orthogonally to the beam axis with random velocity. The whole system has then been modeled with a partial differential equation that can be reduced to a one-dimensional modal equation. The beam response under moving and/or stochastic wind loads has been estimated analytically assuming that the first mode contains the essential information, and using the stochastic averaging method. The analysis has therefore some limitations, namely the limited values of parameters that have been explored, and to have retained the first mode only in the Galerkin’s method. Also, the vehicles’ train has been (over?) simplified as a simple periodic drive. With this limitations in mind, let us summarize the main findings. To start with, in this framework it is possible to investigate how the main parameters of the moving loads and of the bearings affect the beam response, and especially how the driving frequency, the loads number, the stiffness coefficient, fractional-order of the viscosity term and the number of bearings affect the dynamic behaviour of the beam. The resonance phenomenon and the stability in the beam system strongly depends on the stiffness and fractional-order of the derivative term of the viscous properties of the bearings. There are a number of quantitative results that are worth mentioning. Firstly, as the number of moving loads increases, the resonant amplitude of the beam increases as well. Secondly, it has been established that as the number of bearings increases, the resonant amplitude decreases and, more importantly, shifts toward larger frequency values. Thirdly, the system response becomes more stable as the order of the derivative increases, for the multivalued solution only appears for the smallest order and quickly disappears as the order increases. All the above results are a consequence of the analysis of the oscillations. However, the stochastic analysis has allowed to estimate the probabilistic distribution as a consequence of the wind random effects. The beam response, and more specifically the stationary probability density function of its amplitude, can also be retrieved. This type of analysis indicates that as the additive wind turbulence parameter increases, the peak value of the probability density function decreases and progressively shifts toward larger amplitude values, while the average center position stays in the same position. Thus, the additive and parametric wind turbulence decreases the chance for the beam to quickly reach the amplitude resonance.
\nNumerical simulations have confirmed these predictions. This behavior is depicted in \nFigures 2\n–\n5\n, which have practical implications, on which we would like to comment. To make an example, the beam system frequency \n

\\n\\nIn case of termination, IntechOpen will notify the Corresponding Author, in writing, of the decision.
\\n\\n6. INTECHOPEN’S DUTIES AND RIGHTS
\\n\\n6.1 Unless prevented from doing so by events outside its reasonable control, IntechOpen, in its discretion, agrees to publish the Chapter attributing it to the Corresponding Author and any Co-Author.

\\n\\n7.2 Third Party Rights: A person who is not a party to this Publication Agreement may not enforce any of its provisions under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999.
\\n\\n7.3 Entire Agreement: This Publication Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between the parties in relation to its subject matter. It replaces and extinguishes all prior agreements, draft agreements, arrangements, collateral warranties, collateral contracts, statements, assurances, representations and undertakings of any nature made by or on behalf of the parties, whether oral or written, in relation to that subject matter. Each party acknowledges that in entering into this Publication Agreement it has not relied upon any oral or written statements, collateral or other warranties, assurances, representations or undertakings which were made by or on behalf of the other party in relation to the subject matter of this Publication Agreement at any time before its signature (together "Pre-Contractual Statements"), other than those which are set out in this Publication Agreement. Very young children are regular users of smartphones and tablet, so their early digital engagement poses new challenges to parent-child relationships and parental role. First, the chapter introduces the “digital parenting” construct, moving through the literature from “traditional” parenting styles to more recent studies on “parental mediation,” that is, the different behaviors parents adopt to regulate children’s engagement with the Internet and digital media. Second, the chapter reviews empirical researches on different parental mediation practices (active or restrictive behaviors) and how they are adjusted according to the child’s characteristics (age, digital competences, etc.) or parent’s media competence and beliefs. Finally, from a bidirectional perspective of parent-child relationships, the chapter discusses the role of youths’ social involvement, communication, self-disclosure, and digital skills on parent’s beliefs and practices. A particular parenting style influences all phases of development and life style of adolescent. Helicopter parents overly protect their children from the difficulties by setting some set of instructions without consideration of the uniqueness of their children. Recent literature has got huge attention on this parenting style and debating the pros and cons on the development of child. Higher life satisfaction and better psychological wellbeing have been found in the children of highly intrusive parents. When there are positive effects of helicopter parenting, there are negative outcome and impacts that have also been studied. The difficulties in emotional regulation, academic productivity, and social skills among children raised by helicopter parenting have been reported in the literature. Low self-efficacy, lack of trust on peers, and alienation from peers have also been associated with helicopter parenting. The chapter highlights the associated aspects of childhood and adolescence, raised by helicopter parenting. As parents have their own concern about raising their children in certain manner, it is important to understand the underlying mechanism of parenting style. Therefore, this chapter also describes the theoretical framework. Building solid healthy relationships at this stage of their lives is of utmost importance to help them cope with the changes and challenges they are experiencing. The purpose of this chapter is to explore the parent-adolescent relationship in the substance dependency field. The focus is on the relationship between parents and their adolescents who have a substance use disorder. Parenting adolescents poses its own set of challenges, making it difficult to build and maintain healthy parent-adolescent relationships. We argue that although adolescent substance use disorder has been extensively researched, the relationship between parents and adolescents with substance use disorder has surprisingly not received the same attention. It is this gap that this chapter seeks to address. With this in mind, the ecological systems theory was employed here to shed light on the importance and significance of developing healthy parent-adolescent relationships. The findings show that the parent-adolescent relationship primarily informs the daily living of both the parents and the adolescents. Sc in Forestry from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and an M. S from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), USA. He was then honored with a prestigious fellowship from the Canadian Commonwealth to pursue a Ph.D. degree at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada, where he worked on the application of remote sensing for forest resources management. He has been involved in numerous collaborative international research projects that led to publications in reputable journals. Altogether, he has published a total of 14 books and more than 200 research publications. His research interests cover several aspects of forestry, mainly forest modeling, forest ecology, and biodiversity. He received the UiTM’s Best Researcher and Top Talent Awards in 2015 and 2021, respectively.
