Dr. Chico obtained her degree in Biology at the University of Alicante (2003) and her degree in Biochemistry at Miguel Hernandez University (UMH) (2005). Afterward, she acquired her Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology at the Institute of Research, Development, and Innovation in Healthcare Biotechnology in Elche (IDiBE – UMH) in July 2010, focused on Fish Immunology and Viral Prophylaxis. In 2012, she started working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Organism Biology and Comparative Physiology at Uppsala University, in Sweden. Her work was focused on the research in innate immunity and hematopoiesis in crustaceans. After that, since 2015, Dr. Chico is a postdoctoral researcher at the IDiBE-UMH. She is working in a project funded by an ERC Starting Grant, granted to Dr. Maria del Mar Ortega-Villaizan. Her current research interest is the evaluation of the innate and adaptive immune response to viral pathogens in aquaculture in the context of the role of red blood cells as cell mediators in the fish immune response.
