About the book

Mechanical ventilation and ventilator management vary based on location and type of lung injury. Understanding the types of lung injury, and various methods of achieving ventilation expands the armamentarium of the practitioner and allow for the best management decisions to be made.

This book will be a reference for the most up-to-date information on critical care and operating room ventilation. We begin with the discussion of basic ventilation strategies in the operating room. We continue with an analysis of the most recent information on critical care ventilation, including Covid-19 ventilation strategies. Our focus will then change to mechanical ventilation in the trauma patient. We will address various airway management techniques in patients with chest trauma, abdominal trauma, head trauma, and burns. Incorporated into the discussion of mechanical ventilation will be the troubleshooting of ventilation problems in an intubated patient.

This book intends to give the reader a comprehensive overview of mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit (ICU) and operating room (OR) settings based on the most recent literature.

Introducing your Author Service Manager

Mrs. Mia Vulovic

As an Author Service Manager, my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
