In the last 5 years, Dr. Silva gained the FCT grant and has been heading and co-heading several national and international projects. He has been leading several international cooperation projects with recognized institutions such as MIT, the University of Carnegie Mellon, the University of Texas at Austin, and UNESP.

About the book

This book presents recent advances in boundary-layer flows and modern analytical and computational techniques can and should be combined to deepen the understanding of laminar and turbulent flows which may be compressible or incompressible. Mathematical Modelling, Computation of Laminar and turbulent flows which satisfy the requirements of Boundary Layers flows or thin shear approximation and its empirical and numerical calculations are included in the book. It also discusses the nature of transition, the effect of two-dimensional and isolated roughness on laminar flow, and progress in the design of low drag airfoils. A part on Atmospheric Boundary Layers which plays a very important role in deep ocean and circulations, measurements of wind turbulence will also be introduced. Different Numerical methods to solve boundary layer equations, their stability, and convergence are also discussed and presented.

This book will be multidisciplinary in its coverage and will be useful to engineers, scientists, researchers, and graduate students who have advanced knowledge in fluid mechanics, engineers who study the important problems of Modelling, computation, and design.

Over the past decade, Prof. V. Ramachandra Prasad has worked in the areas of multi-physical fluids dynamics and numerical simulation. His work has investigated complex phenomena of interest in mechanical engineering, applied mathematics, chemical engineering, and material processing. He has made fundamental contributions in magnetic fluid dynamics, thermal radiation heat transfer, fluid modeling, micropolar non-Newtonian hydrodynamics, magnetic induction flows, viscoelastic liquid flows, porous media, and boundary flows. He has published more than 150 journal articles in these areas and has made numerous conference presentations. He has published six books on radiation heat transfer, thermo-diffusion and diffusion-thermo effects boundary layers’ flows, and viscoelastic flows. His more recent work has involved non-Newtonian fluid dynamics, fluid-particle suspensions, and lid-driven cavities. He has used the numerical methods of finite difference, finite element, network simulation, and finite volume codes to solve problems in his areas of research in collaboration with US, Indian, Spanish, British, and Taiwanese researchers. He is a professor of Mathematics at Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, India.
