About the book

This book describes basics and advanced techniques and methods in ionizing radiation measurements. Ionizing radiation includes all types of radiation: electromagnetic radiation like Gamma radiation and x-rays, and particle radiation including Alpha, Beta, and neutrons, other types of ionizing radiation might be included in this book. Basics of ionizing radiation dosimetry, theories, concepts, and even the units should be highlighted within this book. Techniques, instruments, and methods of radiation detection and measurements are numerous, some are active and others are passive, also, some techniques are old and there are recent ones. All techniques since the discovery of radiation should be described and discussed. This book describes why we should be interested in measuring ionizing radiation and why a lot of effort is paid toward defining the quantity of ionizing radiation with better accuracy and with higher precision. When this branch of science will stop? And up to when the research in radiation dosimetry should continue?

Publishing process

Book initiated and editor appointed

Date completed: October 24th 2019

Applications to edit the book are assessed and a suitable editor is selected, at which point the process begins.

Chapter proposals submitted and reviewed

Deadline Extended: Open for Submissions

Potential authors submit chapter proposals ready for review by the academic editor and our publishing review team.

Approved chapters written in full and submitted

Deadline for full chapters: April 28th 2020

Once approved by the academic editor and publishing review team, chapters are written and submitted according to pre-agreed parameters

Full chapters peer reviewed

Review results due: July 17th 2020

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: September 15th 2020

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

Ahmed M. Maghraby

National Institute of Standards

Ahmed M. Maghraby graduated from Cairo University, Faculty of Science, Egypt, in 1995 and started his career as a scientist at National Institute of Standards (NIS), Egypt. He received his MSc degree in 1999 and his PhD degree from Cairo University in 2003 for the study on the calibration and cauterization of organic material for use in radiation dosimetry using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR). In 1999, he worked as a guest researcher in the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Maryland, USA, and as a visiting scientist in Dartmouth College (EPR center of viable system) in New Hampshire, USA, in 2008. Also he has worked as a guest researcher in The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Germany’s national metrology institute, in 2006. He has led and participated in several international research projects on radiation measurements. His research interest is the ionizing radiation metrology, especially ionization chambers, EPR, and thermoluminescence dosimetry (TLD). He is a reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals and has supervised a number of master and PhD theses. Now he is the Vice president of the national Physics Committee in Egypt.

Introducing your Author Service Manager

Mr. Mateo Pulko

As an Author Service Manager my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review, to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
