I hold a BSc with Honours in Physics from Imperial College, a Diploma of Imperial College in Plasma and High Temperature Physics, a PhD in Theoretical Physics from London University, a Doctorate in Mathematics from the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland and a Doctorate in Management from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, London. I have published 322 research papers and 15 teaching and research books, filed 20 patents and technologies to license and have been supervisor to over 300 MSc, 72 PhD research graduates and 28 post-doctoral research assistants and fellows. After a career in academia, industry and the scientific civil service, in 2008, I was appointed the Science Foundation Ireland\'s Stokes Professor at the Technological University Dublin where I have been an Honorary Professor since 2012. I currently hold visiting professorships with a number of UK and overseas universities including the University of Wales, Warsaw University of Technology (in the Centre for Advanced Studies), Technological University Dublin, the University of Western Cape and the University of KwaZulu-Natal where I was previously Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research. I am a Fellow of Institutes and Societies including the Institute of Physics, the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, the British Computer Society, the Institution of Engineering and Technology, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Royal Statistical Society, the Energy Institute, the Royal Society of Arts, the Royal Schools of Music, the Chartered Management Institute, the Institute of Leadership and Management and the Institute of Directors. In 2007, I was elected a Fellow of the City and Guilds London Institute for contributions to work-placed based learning and apprenticeship training schemes and in the same year was made a Freeman of the City of London for my contributions to economics. My current research interests are primarily focused on Post-Quantum Cryptology, working in both an academic and industry context. My current teaching duties include providing modules on Cryptography and Cybersecurity while supervising post-graduate students in Ireland, Poland and South Africa.
