Maliha Ibrahim (She/They), PhD, RP is a mental health researcher, educator and registered psychotherapist. Maliha holds certifications in multiple evidence-based clinical modalities including Attachment-based Family Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Emotionally-focused Couples Therapy. Maliha has over 12 years of experience as a psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, educator and mental health researcher. Maliha teaches ethics in psychotherapy, research and statistical methods, humanistic, cognitive and relational counselling modalities, couples and family therapy, socio-cultural psychology, trauma-focused counselling and practicum. Maliha is also a trainer of the person-of-the-therapist (POTT) model of psychotherapy, an experiential training program for personal work in trainee counselors which she has applied across multiple graduate training programs. Maliha has received several grants from esteemed funders and academic bodies as well as published over 20 peer-reviewed research journal articles and several book chapters in the area of interventions for depression, suicidality, attachment and emotional regulation in couples and families, environmental psychology, trauma-focused therapies for substance use and disordered eating behaviours, resilience and mental health in minority populations and school or community based mental health interventions for youth. Maliha has worked as a senior research consultant and advisor for eminent international organizations, including UNICEF and the WHO while also working in coordination with several international research centres on various mental health projects - the Resilience Research Center at Dalhousie University, University of California -UCLA and Drexel University, Philadelphia to name a few. Maliha uses a relational and systemic approach to work with individuals, couples, families and groups and has served as a psychotherapist across various clinical settings- community-based mental health, educational institutions, workplace well-being (EAPs) and private practice. Maliha conducts individual and group supervision for therapists in training. Maliha prioritizes equity in mental health access, affordability of mental health for all and social-justice focused therapy.
