Sikander Ali

Prof. Dr. Sikander Ali did his matriculation in 1991 from Government Islamia High School, Baddomalhi, Tehsil Narowal & District Sialkot. He secured first position in his school and got merit-based scholarship. Earlier, he got first position and scholarship in the middle (8th) class from the same Alma matter. Later,he did his F.Sc from Govt. Islamia College Civil Lines, Lahore in 1993 with distinction. He accomplished B.Sc (1995), M.Sc (1997) and PhD (2005) from University of the Punjab, Lahore in the fields of Botany and Industrial Biotechnology. From 1995 to 2005, he remained a student of Government College University Lahore. He got academic Roll of Honour and Gold medal for 1st position in M.Sc Botany from University of the Punjab, Lahore. As an established researcher and an eminent scientist of Pakistan, he is one of the founder members who established a well-equipped Institute of Industrial Biotechnology (IIB) at Government College University Lahore. He has published more than 300 research papers in Journals of National and International repute. Some of his research papers have received worldwide appreciation. As a Principal Investigator/Co-PI, he headed 4 National and 5 International research projects while assisted in 10 other projects. The projects were fully or partially sponsored by National Science Foundation (NSF), Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) and Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). He is a co-author of about 12 technical research reports. He has supervised over 150 MSc/BSc Hons, 110 MPhil/MS and 8 PhD research students. He is Research Director/Incharge of enzymology research lab at IIB where a number of BSc Hons, MPhil and PhD students are working. He has availed a pre-doctoral Fulbright Scholarship during 2002-2003. One of his research papers was selected for the prestigious Frost and Sullivan Report (2003). He also got training in bioenzyme preparations from China (2004). In 2005, he was awarded with the prestigious MEXT scholarship to pursue research in Osaka University, Japan. In 2006, he was declared as the Active Scientist and Technologist of Pakistan by PSF. He is honored with Endeavour Research Award (2011) for post-doctoral research in the Australian National University at Canberra ACT, Australia. Thirteen times, he has been declared as the Productive Scientist of Pakistan by PCST for the Years 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Eminent Scientific Discovery, UK (Report 2014) crowned him for Top Scientific Article Contribution to Excellence in Biomedical Research. Most notably, he has earned over 3,200 total points in Biological Sciences as evident from PCST reports. His Journal Impact Factor is 250 with 2,500 Author Citations indexed in Thomson Reuters (ISI Database Dec. 2018 / JCR). He has participated in about 90 conferences/symposia/workshops. He is a co-author of ten textbooks written at intermediate/graduate level. He is a referee and member editorial board of many internationally reputed peer-reviewed journals. Currently, he is one of the best Biotechnologist and Microbiologist of the country, contributing tremendous productivity for Pakistan.
