Dr. Yu works at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore since July 2019. A new biological method was used by Dr. Yu to capture CO2 to cement calcareous sandy soil in the construction of island reefs. This is a new technique for the consolidation of ground. Reclaimed land and artificial island projects are mainly composed of calcareous sand and dredger fill. The carbon dioxide solidification bacteria are suitable for bio-mineralization/carbonization for strengthening calcareous sandy soil. The bio-mineralization/carbonization technology can be widely applied to island reef reinforcement, foundation reinforcement, desert sand solidification, and so on, with further research. Based on the above research, the National Nature Science Foundation of China and the Opening Funds of Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Construction Materials were obtained by Dr. Yu.
