About the book
This book will be focused on endometriosis. Risk factors (including nulliparity and tobacco use) and pathogenesis of endometriosis will be defined. Varying concepts in etiology of endometriosis will be explored including retrograde menstruation, lymphatic and hemotalogic spread. Emphasis will be placed on clinical care of patient with endometriosis. The book will also focus on diagnosis, management of symptoms and associated disease states. Diagnostic criteria including invasive and non-invasive testing will be delineated. Staging of endometriosis will be defined and discussed. Treatment based on patient symptoms including pelvic pain, sexual dysfunction, and infertility will also be discussed. Special focus will be placed on treatment for those with endometriosis stratified by desire for conception as this is an essential diagnostic branchpoint for therapy.
Further discussion will be on novel therapeutic agents including oral gonadotropin releasing hormone receptor antagonist, molecular markers of disease (including BCL-6, beta 3 integrin and novel markers such as CCNA2) and progesterone resistance. Future directions in endometriosis research and therapeutics will be explored.
