Mike Dixon

Synauta Inc.

Dr. Dixon has a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Adelaide and business training from Stanford University. He has more than 60 publications in international journals and has been an Editor of the International Desalination Association Journal.

Dr. Barassi returned to Chile, after finishing his Ph.D. in Chemistry in New Zealand, and started his own company H2OPR. He is currently working at FEDCO USA as a leader in hydraulic solutions for the desalination industry.

About the book

As a result of population growth, industrialization and climate change, the water demand is expected to increase and seawater desalination is accepted as an integral part of the water supply circuit in most of the countries. The future desalination processes not only need to meet economic criteria related to CAPEX and OPEX but also environmental sustainability requirements in terms of CO2 emissions, brine and chemical rejections. This book aims to explore the possible practical desalination processes to meet the sustainable water supplies in future to continue the life cycle and to maintain industrial development trend. It will help to bridge the knowledge gap between the real industry and scientific community by showcasing the major challenges faced by the current desalination industry and how innovative processes played an important role to resolve seawater and brackish water treatment issues. The target of this book is to link the industry with experts by sharing their experiences for future sustainable water supplies.

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: October 22nd 2021

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

Dr. Shahzad is working as Sr. Lecturer in Mechanical and Construction Engineering Department at Northumbria University (NU), Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom. He worked as a Research Scientist in the Water Desalination and Reuse Center of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology from 2014-2019 before joining NU, UK. He is working on hybrid desalination processes (MEDAD), renewables and their integration for green and sustainable water production. The innovative MEDAD cycle won many international awards such as, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award 2020 for Innovation, National Sustainability Medal Saudi Arabia 2020 (MEED projects award), National Energy Globe Award Saudi Arabia 2020 & 2019, Excellence and Leadership in Water Award 2019, IDA Environmental & Sustainability Award 2019. His research was highlighted at Yahoo business, Nature Middle East, Arab News and many other national and international platforms. The innovative hybrid water desalination cycle is successfully commercialized in Saudi Arabia and considered as one of the most efficient process. Dr. Shahzad holds 9 international patents. To date, he published 2 book, 17 book chapters, 55 peer-reviewed journal papers and over 100 conference papers. He also received three best paper awards in international conferences. He is an editorial board member of NATURE Applied Science journal and serving as a Guest Editor for topical collections. He is also selected as a regional coordinator for International Desalination Association Young Leader Program (IDA-YLP) for Middle East & Africa region. He is a member of many professional organizations namely; International Desalination Association (IDA) and The International Water Association (IWA).

Introducing your Author Service Manager

Ms. Mia Miskulin

As an Author Service Manager my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review, to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
