About the book

The book aims to present the advances, new perspectives, and applications in craniofacial surgery besides the fundamental concepts and techniques and also the congenital craniofacial deformities, defects, and disorders. This book’s goal will be to reflect the progress in craniofacial surgery from all over the world. The main concepts of the book especially will aim to scope innovations in orthognathic surgery, distraction osteogenesis, surgery first, bone grafts, pre and post orthodontic preparation of orthognathic surgery, internal fixation techniques, computer-assisted orthognathic surgery planning, advances in 3-D analysis, nanotechnology, tissue engineering, complications and risks in craniofacial surgery, new concepts in craniofacial surgery techniques and also multidisciplinary treatment protocols; congenital craniofacial deformities such as Cleft lip and palate, Hemifacial microsomia, Pierre Robin Sequence, Treacher Collins Syndrome and also trauma and tumors. Consequently, this internationally-recognized specialty is evolving through advancements in technology, instrumentation, and treatment methods. The book is intended to be of great value to both craniofacial surgeons, orthodontic practitioners, and also to students, who will find learning resources in connection with their fields of study. This will help them acquire valid knowledge and excellent clinical skills.

Applications to edit the book are assessed and a suitable editor is selected, at which point the process begins.

Chapter proposals submitted and reviewed

Deadline for chapter proposals: June 16th 2022

Potential authors submit chapter proposals ready for review by the academic editor and our publishing review team.

Register for the book

Approved chapters written in full and submitted

Deadline for full chapters: August 15th 2022

Once approved by the academic editor and publishing review team, chapters are written and submitted according to pre-agreed parameters

Full chapters peer reviewed

Review results due: November 3rd 2022

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: January 2nd 2023

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

Dr. Belma IşIk Aslan was born in 1976 in Ankara-TURKEY. After graduating from TED Ankara College in 1994, she attended to Gazi University, Faculty of Dentistry in Ankara. She completed her PhD in orthodontic education at Gazi University between 1999-2005. Dr. Işık Aslan stayed at the Providence Hospital Craniofacial Institude and Reconstructive Surgery in Michigan, USA for three months as an observer. She worked as a specialist doctor at Gazi University, Dentistry Faculty, Department of Orthodontics between 2005-2014. She was appointed as associate professor in January, 2014 and as professor in 2021. Dr. Işık Aslan still works as an instructor at the same faculty. She has published a total of 35 articles, 10 book chapters, 39 conference proceedings both internationally and nationally. Also she was the academic editor of the international book 'Current Advances in Orthodontics'. She is a member of the Turkish Orthodontic Society and Turkish Cleft Lip and Palate Society. She is married and has 2 children. Her knowledge of English is at an advanced level.

Introducing your Author Service Manager

Ms. Dolores Kuzelj

As an Author Service Manager my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review, to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
