About the book
Dengue is the most important arbovirus to the public health, worldwide. After the Second World War four serotypes of Dengue virus spread from Asia to several countries around the word, principally in subtropical and tropical areas, where the main vector meets optimal life conditions. One of the most important challenges for the development of a dengue virus vaccine is the immunopathogenic characteristic of dengue fever and alternatives to the vaccine can be obtained by developing new drugs and improving therapeutic methods, besides an effective control of its main vector. In recent years, several alternative methods have been proposed for the control and treatment of this important arboviruse, however, the regional epidemiological characteristics of dengue fever, associated with genetic changes of vectors, viruses and human populations, should be observed to apply the new developing tools. Thus, this book aims to get up-to-date information on these important aspects of dengue fever in order to help public health institutions to find the best solution considering its regional particularities.
