About the book
The sudden global spread of novel coronavirus strains infecting humans late in 2019 has become a global threat for humanity and started a new era of COVID-19 pandemics with unprecedented socio-economic challenges and social crisis due to long-term and periodic multiple lock-downs globally. The situation has been even more dangerous and risky in the background of limited knowledge in understanding of the virus, its infection and variability capacity as well as lack of drugs and protocols of treatment. One of the key solutions that the world aimed from the beginning of COVID-19 pandemics has been a hope for rapid development of COVID-19 vaccines in order to overcome the global spread of virus infection via forming herd immunity. Thanks to the scientific efforts of world research communities, within a short time and with a fast-track project approach, several novel COVID-19 vaccines have been developed and made available for massive vaccination worldwide. However, humanity still is in midst of these pandemics and there is a need for better knowledge, understanding, technology, and innovative solutions to battle against this virus and its novel variants. Therefore, this “COVID-19 vaccines–current state and perspectives” book volume aims to compile views and analysis of international scientific communities on the understanding of virus biology and genome helping to develop current and future vaccines, advantages and disadvantages as well as their protection capacity of different vaccine technologies, requirements for approval and massive use in the light of gained experiences of currently developed, approved and massively used COVID-19 vaccines.
This book will intend to provide the reader with a comprehensive overview of the current state-of-the-art in COVID-19 vaccines with the future perspectives and novel directions to develop novel vaccine technologies or innovative application protocols that effectively protect from reinfection with potentially new coronavirus variants.
