Maria Rosa Aguilar

Maria Rosa Aguilar de Armas obtained her Bachelor Degree in Chemistry by the University of San Pablo CEU (Madrid) in July 1998. She started her research career in the Analytical Chemistry Department of this University, using Capillary Electrophoresis for the quantification of short-chain organic acids in urine. At the beginning of 1999 she obtained a FPI grant for developing her doctoral thesis at the Biomaterials group of the Institute of Polymer Science and Technology (ICTP, CSIC), under the supervision of Prof. Julio San Roman and Dr. Alberto Gallardo. She obtained her PhD degree with the thesis “Hydrophilic Polymeric Systems Bearing Ionisable Groups and their Application as Biomaterials” in February 2003. During this period she spent several months in well-recognised international groups in UK and EEUU. Autumn 2003 she moved to England and spent two years at the University of Brighton as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the group of Prof. Andrew Lloyd. During this time she contacted different researchers and started collaborating with Prof. Sergey Mikhalovsky (University of Brighton) and Prof. Igor Galaev (University of Lund) to develop polymeric cryogels for biomedical applications. Autumn 2005 she went back to the Group of Biomaterials. She is now a tenured researcher at the ICTP (CSIC) where she carries out her research activity these days.
