In 1997 Dr. Peter Joseph Jongen was co-founder of the Multiple Sclerosis Centre Nijmegen in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. From the start of the centre until 2007 he was Director and one of the senior neurologists. He became especially interest in phase 4 research. Dr. Jongen has participated in over 30 clinical trials and initiated national and international phase 4 studies on effectiveness, quality of life and pharmaco-economic aspects of immunomodulation in relapsing MS. He is member of the Scientific and Medical Board of the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation (MSIF), member of the Subcommittee on Multiple Sclerosis / Demyelinative Diseases of the European Neurological Society (ENS), and former council member of the European Committee on Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS). Dr. Jongen is author of more than 90 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and has supervised training of MS researchers and physicians. He obtained his medical degree at the Radboud University, Nijmegen, the Netherlands in 1988, after Bachelor’s exam cum laude and Doctoral’s exam with honors. In 2008 Dr. Jongen founded the MS4 Research Institute, an independent, scientific, non-profit organization dedicated to phase 4 research in MS, especially on the therapeutic value of medical treatments.
