Hiran Amarasekera

Hiran Amarasekera is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon from Sri Lanka currently working in University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire, the UK as a hip preservation fellow. His special interests include young adult hip and knee problems, sports injuries, Hip and knee arthroplasty, and complex arthroscopic procedures. He completed the MBBS from Kasturba medical college Manipal, India and did his postgraduate in Trauma and Orthopaedics at the Post-graduate Institute of the Medicine University of Colombo obtained the MS. He was initially trained at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka and then completed the further training at the Oldchurch Hospital in Essex UK and The Avenue Hospital Melbourne, Australia and University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire, UK. He obtained the FRCS from Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2003 and was elected a fellow of Sri Lanka College of surgeons (FCSSL) 2012. He has a keen interest in academia and research. Working as a clinical research fellow in Warwick Medical School he obtained the MPhil form University of Warwick and was elected for a research fellowship to University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). His research interests include blood flow to the hip, failure of hip resurfacing, designing new hip prosthesis, and surgical approaches to the hip. He has over 30 international publications and presentations and several book chapter. He also works as a reviewer for international orthopedic journals and has reviewed over 35 papers and is a member of the editorial board of Sri Lanka Journal of Surgery.

It discusses all aspects of arthroscopy including complex surgical procedures, feasibility of performing surgery as an OPD procedure, and complications associated with these surgeries. This book will benefit all sports medicine physicians, orthopaedic surgeons and trainees, physiotherapists, and all clinicians involved in treating joint diseases. The combination of the authors' shared experiences with facts and presentation of figures and photographs will help the reader in understanding the complex principles involved.
