CURRICULUM VITAE of GIANPIERO PATARO Gianpiero Pataro was born in Saracena (CS) on the 5th of January 1971. Since 1/10/2006 Dr. Gianpiero Pataro is a research associate in the Department of Chemical and Food Engineering at the University of Salerno. In October 2000 he graduated at the School of Engineering of the University of Calabria, Cosenza (Italy) with a thesis on titled “The influence of operating temperature on the dense phase properties of bubbling fluidized beds of solids”. In 2004 he obtained the Doctoral degree (3 years PhD) in Chemical and Food Engineering at the University of Salerno (Italy) with a thesis titled “The utilization of pulsed electric fields in food stabilization”. During this period he spent one month at the Technical University of Berlin where, under the supervisor of Dr. Volker Heinz, started his research activity on PEF applications for food sanitization. Since April 2008 to October 2008 he has been visiting scientist for six months at the University College Dublin (Dublin, Irelnd). In this period his research activity was concerned, under the supervisor of Dr. James Lying, on the application of both ultrasound and pulsed UV light for fruit juices pasteurization. Since 2006 he collaborate with Prof. Giorgio Donsì, Prof. Giovanna Ferrari and Prof. Massimo Poletto in teaching, respectively, of Chemical Plant Design, Food Industrial Plant Design and Environmental Chemical Engineering at the School of Food and Chemical Engineering of the University of Salerno. The research activities of Dr. Gianpiero Pataro are in the following subjects: - Sanitization of food by means of pulsed electric fields (PEF) - Sanitization of food by means of pulsed light (PL) - Ohmic Heating of Foods - Applications of Pulsed Electric Fields to improve Mass transfer in the Food Industry
