Mohd Mizan Aslam is a Professor of Security and Strategic Studies at the National Defence University of Malaysia (NDUM). He is also a senior fellow at the Global Peace Institute (GPI), London, UK. Prof. Mizan holds a position at the National Panel for Deradicalization, a special task force unit for the rehabilitation of terrorist inmates. He also works with the Office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Home Affairs of Malaysia in the research and development of modules and programs on deradicalization (Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism). Dr. Aslam was a former Professor of Counter Terrorism Studies at the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he established the Centre for Terrorism and Extremism Studies (CTES). He is Chairman of the Perdana Global Peace Foundation (PGPF). He also works with the Middle Eastern Institute (MEI), in Washington, USA, as a Country Expert in analysing terrorism and extremism issues in Southeast Asia, Middle East and North Africa. Previously, he was a visiting scholar at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, USA, and Ibnu Haldun University, Istanbul.

Through examining the development of new trends in terrorism, it is evident that the purpose of the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) has yet to be achieved since the terror landscape is constantly changing due to new developments. The Israel and Hamas war that began in October 2023 has awakened many militant organizations and has amplified the efforts of active militants on the ground and online. Therefore, such attacks will motivate like-minded individuals and continue the legacy of militancy, making it a challenge to eradicate. Hence, it is evident that the GWOT is constantly being challenged by new circumstances in the global terror landscape.
