Gianluca Aimaretti

Gianluca Aimaretti has been professor of Endocrinology at the University of Piemonte Orientale, Novara, Italy, since 2006. He was graduated in Medicine from the University of Turin in 1992 and gained his post-graduate qualification in Endocrinology and Metabolism from the University of Turin in 1998. In 2004, he was awarded as PhD in Endocrinology and Metabolism from the University of Milan. His research interests are the control of growth hormone secretion throughout the human life span, the diagnosis of growth hormone deficiency in children and adults, endocrine alterations in central nervous system diseases, growth hormone-releasing peptides (GHRPs) and thyroid tumors. He has written more than 120 original articles that have been published in international journals and 38 book chapters or letters to the editor. He has been an invited speaker at more than 120 national and international meetings.

The purpose of the present volume is to focus on more recent aspects of the complex regulation of hormonal action, in particular in 3 different hot fields: metabolism, growth and reproduction. Modern approaches to the physiology and pathology of endocrine glands are based on cellular and molecular investigation of genes, peptide, hormones, protein cascade at different levels. In all of the chapters in the book all, or at least some, of these aspects are described in order to increase the endocrine knowledge.
