Laura Ward

Dr. Ward is Associate Professor of Medicine at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas in São Palo, Brazil. She earned both her MD and PhD from the Paulista School of Medicine at the Universidade Federal de São Paulo. Dr. Ward has published over 110 peer-reviewed articles and 40 book chapters, including 5 chapters in international books. She is the editor of a Thyroid Manual that was translated to spanish and is currently on its second edition. Dr. Ward guided 10 doctoral thesis and sponsored 20 MAster pos-graduated students and 3 post-doctoral feloows. She has been recognized as Researcher of the Brazilian National Council of Research and awarded the Latin American Thyroid Association Prize in 2011. Her current interests include the investigation of genes involved in the metabolism of estrogen in Graves’ disease and in thyroid cancer; development of targets and biologic sensors for the diagnostic and therapeutics of human disease; and evaluation of the clinical utility of serum markers for thyroid malignancy.
