Élvio Rúbio Gouveia (ERG) is Assistant Professor of the Department of Physical Education and Sport at the University of Madeira and Director of the Executive Committee of Interactive Technologies Institute, a research unit of LARSyS - Laboratory of Robotics and Engineering Systems. ERG also collaborates with the Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Gerontology and Vulnerability, University of Geneva. ERG has been working on the development and evaluation of strategies to promote physical activity, fitness, and quality of life in children, adults, and older adults. With the focus on the physiological assessment of human fitness and the promotion of healthy aging, his research is grounded on a multidisciplinary approach to several issues that affect health fitness. The results have impacted public policy, from a better understanding of physiological patterns on health conditions, helping people to change behavior, and looking for healthy lifestyles.
