Human Sciences Research Council South Africa

I am a Research Specialist at the Human Sciences Research Council in the Department of Social Aspects of Public Health. I have spent the past 13 years working as a Medical Scientist and Public Health Researcher, specializing in Human Anatomy, Physiology, Pathophysiology, as well as Clinical Nutrition at various universities in SA. Since 2013, I have been involved with community health and NGOs, and further exposed to health promotion. My passion towards health promotion accelerated and I served as an online mentor for the Triune Uganda 2009 Global Project for Pharmacy and Social Science students from countries in Africa, America, Europe and Asia. In 2015, I completed a PhD in Public Health. I am actively involved in research relating to Maternal, Adolescent and Child Health in South Africa and globally, with specific niche areas such as Non-communicable diseases, m-Health, Artificial Intelligence in Health and Nutrition. I am on the Executive Board of Directors for the Public Health Association of South Africa (PHASA), and current chair of the Scientific Committee. I am also a board member for the World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology, a member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World, and International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE). I am an Affiliate Member of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) for the period 2019-2023. I serve as a reviewer for various national and international journals. I was a BRICS Young Scientist 2018 awardee, where I was appointed as the SA representative for the ICT theme. I have a research and networking team within the HSRC to collaborate with alike young scientists in India and Russia. In 2018, I was a recipient of the Gro Brundtland Award for outstanding work in the field of public health and sustainable development. When I am not busy with research, I am actively involved in community engagement, an enthusiastic foodie who loves shopping and travelling.
