Dr. Muhammad Afzaal, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Food Science, Government College University Faisalabad, Pakistan.  He has ten years of teaching and research experience. He is in Incharge of "Food Safety and Biotechnology Lab ''. His area of research includes probiotics, gut health, functional foods, and microencapsulation. His research focus is on the augmentation of the viability and stability of probiotics under various hostile conditions. His laboratory works mainly focus on the development of functional foods for the health benefits of the community.  His laboratory also involved in the analyzes of various food samples for their nutritional and safety parameters. Dr. Muhammad Afzaal completed his Ph.D. in Food Science and Technology from GC University Faisalabad. His doctorate research focus was on the development of functional foods containing encapsulated probiotics with improved viability. He is also working on various carbohydrates, protein, and lipid-based encapsulation wall material to elucidate their key role in the viability and stability of probiotics under stressed conditions
