National Research Council Italy

Education: 2009 Ph.D. in Chemical Science, University of Bologna, Italy. 2005: Degree in Chemistry, University of Bologna, Italy. Research experience: 2009. Grant as Post-doc position by Regione Piemonte to make a research about the synthesis of inorganic nanocrystals and their functionalization with antibodies, Università del Piemonte Orientale, Dipartimento di Scienze Mediche 2009. Coordinator of a project funding by Regione Piemonte (Progetto Ricerca Sanitaria Finalizzata 2009): Multifunctional nanoparticles for the cancer therapy: studies in vitro and in vivo. 2005. Grant by MIUR as PhD student to make a research on the theme Development of nanotechnology applied to the interaction between inorganic phases and biological molecules” developed at LEBSC (Laboratory of Enviromental and Biological Structural Chemistry) of University of Bologna (Adviser Prof. N. Roveri). 2005. Grant by Guaber Spa Funo (BO) for a research on the theme “Synthesis and characterization of carbonate-hydroxyapatite nanocrystals for biomedical applications” developed at LEBSC (Laboratory of Enviromental and Biological Structural Chemistry) of Bologna. Iafisco collaborates and develops is scientific activities with different Italian and European research groups. In 2007 and 2008 he was visiting researcher at the Laboratorio de Estudios Cristalográficos (LEC) (Granada, Spain) (Adviser: Prof. Juan Manuel Grarcia Ruiz). He studied the bioinorganic process for the control of calcium phosphates crystallizations. In 2007 he was visiting researcher at the Eindhoven University of Technology Soft Matter Cryo-TEM research unit (Eindhoven, The Nederlands) (Adviser: Dr. Nico A.J.M. Sommerdijik). He studied the formation of collagen by using Cryo-TEM. In 2010 he was visiting researcher at the Department of Periodontology and Biomaterials, Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Center (Nijmegen, The Nederlands) (Adviser: Prof. John Jansen) where he studied the electrospray technique to develop calcium phosphates coatings. Iafisco has facilities in numerous crystallization and characterization techniques of inorganic crystals and he was involved in european and national projects. He is referee of several scientific international journals like CrystEngComm, International Journal of Nanomedicine and Journal of Nanomaterials. Iafisco is active member of COST action MP0701 “Composites with novel functional and structural properties by nanoscale materials (Nano Composite Materials â€' NCM)”. He is member of the “Associazione Italiana di Cristallografia” and of the “European Society of Biomaterials”. Numerous experimental techniques are used by Iafisco. He uses X-ray diffraction, Fourier trasform Infrared spectroscopy, UV-VIS spectroscopy, thermal analyses (TGA, DSC), electron microscopes (SEM, TEM, cryo-TEM). Iafisco had published scientific articles on international journal and had presented his research in national and international conferences and schools.
