Abhijit Ray

Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University India

Associate Professor in Solar Energy Materials and Devices at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU), India and heading Department of Solar Energy. He received his MSc in Physics from University of Kalyani (India) and PhD in experimental condensed matter physics from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (India) in 2003. After completing his PhD, he was post doctoral researcher at Variable Energy Cyclotron Center of Department of Atomic Energy (India). In 2004 he joined Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra as Lecturer in Physics and joined PDPU in 2007 as Assistant Professor. He has also been visiting professor at Nagoya Institute of Technology, Japan during 2015-16. His current research works are focused on the development of earth-abundant and less toxic semiconducting thin films, nanostructures and devices for photovoltaic, photo-electrochemical, electrocatalytic conversions and capacitive energy storage applications. He has been principle investigator in four externally funded research projects; published more than 48 papers in peer reviewed journals and filed 3 Indian patents.

The book starts with a theoretical understanding of electrocatalysis in the framework of density functional theory followed by a vivid review of oxygen reduction reactions. A special emphasis has been placed on electrocatalysts for a proton-exchange membrane-based fuel cell where graphene with noble metal dispersion plays a significant role in electron transfer at thermodynamically favourable conditions. The latter part of the book deals with two 2D materials with high economic viability and process ability and MoS2 and WS2 for their prospects in water-splitting from renewable energy.
