Anthony Attama

Anthony Amaechi Attama is a Professor of Pharmaceutics and Director of the Institute for Drug-Herbal Medicines-Excipients Research and Development, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He was at various times the Director of the Education Innovation Unit and the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Agbani. He has held many other positions in the University. Prof. Attama was an Alexander von Humboldt scholar at Technische Universität Carolo-Wilhelmina zu Braunschweig, Germany, and a Visiting Professor at the Institute for Medical Research Israel-Canada (IMRIC), Hadassah Medical School, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. Prof. Attama coordinates the Drug Delivery and Nanomedicines Research Group of the University, which focuses on the improvement of the efficacy of drugs used for the treatment of mostly neglected tropical and poverty-related diseases, through the engineering of novel drug delivery strategies. He has researched extensively on lipid and polymeric drug delivery systems- micro and nanomedicines using natural raw materials. Prof. Attama has received many awards, honors, research and travel grants, and has attended many scientific conferences, workshops, and special and certificate courses. He has delivered many invited lectures, plenary lectures, and keynote addresses in different conferences/workshops and is on the editorial board of many national and international journals. Prof. Attama has successfully supervised many PhDs and master’s degree students in pharmaceutical sciences. He has published many research articles in peer-reviewed high impact journals, which have translated to a very high Google Scholar Citation and two patents in nanomedicines. Prof. Attama has received many awards and is also a research grant proposal reviewer for many international bodies and a professorial assessor for many universities in and outside Nigeria. He is a member of many professional organizations. In a bid to translate research results into products, he has fostered the establishment of some pharmaceutical industries in Nigeria and serves as a consultant to many pharmaceutical companies on formulation development and pharmaceutical quality systems. Prof. Attama is a registered pharmacist and a Federal Government licensed drug analyst. He is happily married with children.
