Jesús López-Rodríguez

Lopez-Rodriguez is currently a Full Professor of Economics in the area of Foundations of Economic Analysis at the Universidade da Coruña. He held the position of Senior Research Fellow (Grand Holder 40-the highest category for non-civil servant personnel of the European Commission) at the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS-JRC) of the DG JRC of the European Commission between 2013 and 2014. He is a past-Head of the research group “Grupo Jean Monnet de Competencia y Desarrollo (GCD)” (2013-2014) ranked top category for research groups within the Galicia´s system of Research Groups. Lopez-Rodriguez has a long track record of research in regional economics, geographical economics, public economics, and development policies. He acted as advisor to several institutions including DG REGIO and DG JRC of the European Commission, Galicia and Basque country Courts of Competition, Galicia-Europe Foundation, Galicia´s Innovation Agency and A Coruña City Council among others). He participated as PI in both international, national and regional projects and carried out research stays in the economics departments at Harvard University (Salvador de Madariaga Scholarship, MEC), London School of Economics (Xunta de Galicia Scholarship), University of Exeter and the Institute of Capital, Creativity and Innovation-IC2 at the University of Texas. Lopez-Rodriguez contributed with more than one hundred presentations at both national and international conferences (such as those of the European Economic Association and the Spanish Economic Association SAEe meetings), and more than fifty seminars by invitation at different universities and other institutions such as the Republic of Colombia central bank and the European Commission (Joint Research Center, DG Regio). He has also participated as Keynote Speaker for international conferences on several occasions (ICABE, TIMTED). Lopez-Rodriguez supervised 8 Ph.D. thesis as well as several master's theses and end-of-degree projects and has been invited to give short courses at different universities. He is a member of the Editorial Board of several journals (Investigaciones Regionales, European Research Studies Journal, Revista Galega de Economía, Journal of Quantitative Methods for Economics and Business, among others). He published in a wide variety of journals, including Economics Systems Research, Regional Studies, Tijdschrift voor economische en sociale geografie, Structural Change and Economic Dynamics, Economics Letters, Applied Economics, European Journal of Law and Economics and Constitutional Political Economy. His research work has been recognized with the 2005 Ph.D. Dissertation Award, the Best Paper Award in Economics at the 2004 Applied Business Research Conference, a third position at the 2015 Dr. Ernest Feder Annual Award given by Instituto de Investigaciones Económicas, (National Autonomous University of Mexico) and the 2019 First prize at the “III Concurso de Investigación Científica de la Superintendencia de Compañías, Valores y Seguros del Ecuador”. He has three positive evaluations of his research activities (periods 2001-2006, 2007-2012 and 2013-2018) and one positive evaluation of his knowledge and innovation transfer activities - (sexenio de transferencia de conocimiento e innovación) for the period 1998-2006 given by the Spanish National Agency for the Research Evaluation (CNEAI).
