Dr. Wang’s research focus is the translational study to develop new molecular diagnostic tests for residual tumor cell and pathogen detection. By utilizing the specific DNA methylation biomarkers, he developed a nested PCR-based molecular method which could detect 1 tumor cell allele in 1 million normal cell alleles. With collaboration with other investigators, he developed a blood-based microRNA panel using nanopore technology for lung cancer early detection. This method can potentially be used in cancer screening and early detection, cancer therapeutic monitoring, and minimal residual disease detection, and thus, prognostic prediction. He is also interested in molecular interactions between genetic and epigenetic systems in tumor stem cells during tumorigenesis especially leukemogenesis and lymphomagenesis.
