Anica Dricu

Prof. Anica Dricu was awarded his PhD in Experimental Pathology by the University of Medicine „ Karolinska Institute” , Stockholm, in 1997. She became Docent in Molecular Oncology at the University of Medicine „ Karolinska Institute”, Stockholm, in 2007. Dr. Anica Dricu was appointed Professor at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Craiova, in 2009. As a faculty member at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Craiova, Prof. Anica Dricu is involved in teaching medical students, residents, clinical fellows, graduate and undergraduate students. In addition to her research and teaching activities, Prof. Dricu is actively involved in service at national and institutional levels; she is currently, director of the Doctoral School and head of the Division of Biochemistry at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Craiova and she also serves as a member of the National Council for Titles, Diplomas and Certificates . She is a editorial member of several medical journal. Her special interests include: stem cell research, experimental pathology, molecular oncology, medical biochemistry.

Alterations in the normal DNA methylation processes are known to have major consequences for embryonic development and are associated with congenital defects, autoimmunity, aging and malignant transformation. The main purpose of this book is to provide information about the importance of methylation mechanisms in human health and disease. The book, covers the basic mechanism of DNA and protein methylation, aiming at the advanced undergraduate and graduate biomedical students and researchers working in the epigenetic area. The textbook chapters provide background as well as advanced information in the methylation area. On the other hand, it provide readers with both classical and relevant recent discoveries that have been made in the field, pointing out pathways where questions remain.
