Diofantos G. Hadjimitsis is a Professor, Chair of the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics of the Cyprus University of Technology in Limassol, and Head of the Remote Sensing and the Geo-Environment Lab. He was born in Pafos, Cyprus. He obtained a First class HND Diploma in Civil Engineering from the Higher Technical Institute (Cyprus) and a First Class BEng. (Honours) Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Surrey (UK). Diofantos was awarded the Felix Pulzer Memorial Prize (University of Surrey) and National Guard Prize (HTI). He completed his MPhil and PhD in the field of Satellite Remote Sensing from the University of Surrey (UK). His PhD has been sponsored from Thames Water Utilities (UK), ORS and Faculty of Engineering Scholarship (University of Surrey) schemes. Diofantos obtained a distinction MSc award in Real Estate and Property Management (RICS), from the University of Salford (UK). Diofantos is a civil engineer and accredited valuator by profession and member of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ΕΤΕΚ) in both professional areas. In the past, he has worked at the University of Surrey (UK), University of Southampton (UK), and Frederick University (Cyprus) as well in the industrial sector in the fields of remote sensing, geo-information and civil engineering. He has authored more than 260 research publications in peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, chapters in books and technical reports. His research group is the biggest group at the Cyprus University of Technology. Since his appointment at the Cyprus University of Technology (2007), he participated in more than 30 research projects with funding sources from the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation, FP6, FP7, Eureka, Life +, MED, EC regional funds, national funds and industry. Diofantos has been a coordinator of more than 15 research projects. He is a member of the ‘Advisory Committee’, which deals with national space issues, under the umbrella of the Ministry of Communications and Works in Cyprus., He is also a founder member and Vice-President of the Cyprus Remote Sensing Society. He is the member of the editorial team of the Central European Journal of Geosciences and he is a reviewer of several international journals in the fields of remote sensing and geo-information for environmental applications.
