Special Issue
BIOMIMICRY, NANOBIO TECHNOLOGY, AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN PLASTIC, RECONSTRUCTIVE AND AESTHETIC SURGERY
This Special Issue, entitled “Biomimicry, NanoBioTechnology, and Artificial Intelligence in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery”, will cover the entire R&D&I chain from basic to applied to clinical (translational) research in the field of innovative tissue engineering and regenerative medicine solutions that incorporate nanobiotechnology, advanced biomaterials, computer-based solutions, three-dimensional printing, and robotic systems, offering extensive potential for: (a) augmenting and improving the dental-oral-craniofacial health status, and (b) advancing risk assessment, diagnosis, aesthetics, therapeutic and reconstructive (reparation, restoration, replacement and regeneration of soft and hard tissues) approaches to dental-oral-cranio-maxillo-facial conditions, and beyond. We kindly invite you to contribute to this Special Issue with a scientific and/or clinical paper, a modelling/simulation paper, or a review article on any topic related to this subject.

The Special Topic and Issue on Biomimicry, NanoBioTechnology, and Artificial Intelligence in Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery aim to cover the latest research, innovations, and future projections to promote awareness of the emerging field of Digital Medicine and Healthcare Technology. Due to the complex nature of such “outside-the-box” ideas, concepts, designs, strategies and technologies, this field has attracted experts from physics, chemistry, biology, materials science, pharmaceutics, robotics, and bioengineering as from industry. This exciting field aims to bridge the gap between medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, material sciences, and engineering (including sub-specialties, extending to the head and neck, orthopedics, and oncology, amongst others), addressing critical and urgent dental and medical health concerns, for ultimately improving general health and overall quality of life of patients and their families, as well as aid the health care providers in their duty. This Special Issue collection's editor seeks state-of-the-art, multi-and intra-disciplinary, basic, experimental, applied, clinical, and translational research for dental-oral-craniofacial tissue engineering, including risk assessment, diagnosis, restoration, replacement, reconstruction, regeneration, and repair. Herein, persistent improvements in the traditional approaches via the development and/or incorporation of advanced functional biomaterials, cell-/gene-/protein-/drug-delivery systems, new tools, and pharmacological/pharmaceutical formulations to improve overall dental-oral-cranio-maxillo-facial health and clinical practice, are pursued. The field is slowly-evolving yet expected to provide clinicians and patients with more precision and customized materials, drugs, and equipment, by which safety, aesthetics, function, and patient compliance (and quality of life/QoL) are advanced and enhanced. Papers can emphasize innovative or alternative design solutions with a focus on demonstrating physico chemico-mechanical/rheological, cellular, histomorphometrical, and immunohistochemical parameters, safety (cyto-/bio-compatibility), and efficacy (pre-clinical and clinical) characteristics of functional biomaterials for pharmaceutic delivery, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine. Translational and socio-economic/market studies are also encouraged and welcomed to provide the reader with relevant projections of the market. Clinicians, researchers, and industry experts are invited to contribute original research and policy articles and critical literature reviews, summarizing the most recent and exciting innovative developments in the emerging and developing field.
