Scope

The field of Search and Rescue Robotics plays an important role in improving awareness and overall contribution to civilian safety. Autonomous mobile robots and supportive AI technologies can support the inspection, search, and rescue tasks. Recent advances in on-line, large-scale, affordable mobile mapping (Indoor, Outdoor) can contribute to the digitization of the scene and help in many aspects, such as training and even geo-analysis. Miniaturization of the sensors and actuators provide a positive impact on small robots’ design and development, thus, this Special Issue welcomes contributions in this area such as robot capable of penetrating tiny environments. The supportive technologies for communication, interoperability and other crucial software/system components that can be integrated with the crisis management systems are also the focus; for this reason, it is encouraged to disseminate recent advances in distributed computing and other supportive technologies improving the overall awareness of the multiple, international Search and Rescue Teams.
