First two sections are reserved for the basic knowledge and the recent discoveries related to structure and cellular function of the pulmonary vasculature. The chapters also describe disregulated pathways known to be affected in pulmonary hypertension. A special section deals with the effects of hypoxia on the pulmonary vasculature and the myocardium. \n\nOther three sections introduce the methods of evaluating pulmonary hypertension to the reader. The chapters present several forms of pulmonary hypertension which are particularly challenging in clinical practice (such as pulmonary arterial hypertension associated with systemic sclerosis), and lastly, they address special considerations regarding management of pulmonary hypertension in certain clinical scenarios such as pulmonary hypertension in the critically ill.',isbn:null,printIsbn:"978-953-307-835-9",pdfIsbn:"978-953-51-6710-5",doi:"10.5772/1291",price:139,priceEur:155,priceUsd:179,slug:"pulmonary-hypertension-from-bench-research-to-clinical-challenges",numberOfPages:340,isOpenForSubmission:!1,isInWos:null,isInBkci:!1,hash:"488ca2b21e4374b6337d1aacbd107c3b",bookSignature:"Roxana Sulica and Ioana Preston",publishedDate:"December 9th 2011",coverURL:"https://cdn.intechopen.com/books/images_new/783.jpg",numberOfDownloads:58429,numberOfWosCitations:13,numberOfCrossrefCitations:4,numberOfCrossrefCitationsByBook:0,numberOfDimensionsCitations:17,numberOfDimensionsCitationsByBook:0,hasAltmetrics:0,numberOfTotalCitations:34,isAvailableForWebshopOrdering:!0,dateEndFirstStepPublish:"February 1st 2011",dateEndSecondStepPublish:"March 1st 2011",dateEndThirdStepPublish:"July 6th 2011",dateEndFourthStepPublish:"August 5th 2011",dateEndFifthStepPublish:"December 3rd 2011",currentStepOfPublishingProcess:5,indexedIn:"1,2,3,4,5,6",editedByType:"Edited by",kuFlag:!1,featuredMarkup:null,editors:[{id:"74136",title:"Dr.",name:"Roxana",middleName:null,surname:"Sulica",slug:"roxana-sulica",fullName:"Roxana Sulica",profilePictureURL:"https://mts.intechopen.com/storage/users/74136/images/1910_n.jpg",biography:"Dr. Roxana Sulica is Assistant Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York and is the Director of the Beth Israel Pulmonary Hypertension Program. In regards to the materials manufacturing processes that accompany coagulation, it has been indicated that multilayer convection cell formation and amalgamation occurs due to double diffusive convection, and that this may exert an influence on material quality [1, 2]. When manufacturing this kind of material, solute elimination occurs on the coagulation interface during the multi-component solution coagulation process, and double diffusive convection occurs due to the gradient between temperature and concentration in the droplet phase. It is thought that multilayer cell structure formation and destruction occur due to this phenomenon in the droplet phase, and that this exerts a major influence over crystal growth speeds and material quality. However, many relevant details remain unexplained. As the phenomenon of convection cell amalgamation in particular is complex, the phenomenon of convection between low- and high-concentration layers has come to be considered as a system using experiments and mathematical simulations [3 - 10]. Bergman et al. [5] measured the speed of material passing through the diffusion interface at convection cell amalgamation and between convection cells. Subsequently, Nishimura et al. [7, 8] made broad-ranging changes to control parameters, and proposed a correlational formula for these issues. Hyun et al. [10] considered the amalgamation process in detail using 2-dimensional mathematical calculations, and showed that high-frequency component fluctuation occurs at the average
Convection cell amalgamation is governed by the diffusion interface, where major gradients in concentration are present. As both thermally unstable diffusive-type double diffusive convection and opposing, sheer flows due to thermal convection co-exist in interface areas according to calculation results by Hyun et al. [10], it is anticipated that interface instability can easily occur in these circumstances. Recently, Tanny et al. [9] focused on interface regions and investigated 2-dimensional structures using the Schlieren method. The team also reported that when initial buoyancy is low and thermal Rayleigh number is high, vortex arrays form above and below the interface, and convection cell amalgamation time is shortened. Considered in light of vortex structure, this phenomenon is thought to occur primarily due to sheer current instability. However, while traditional research also leads us to anticipate interface instability due to double diffusive convection, characteristics of diffusive-type double diffusive convection in sheer currents remain unknown.
Diffusive interface between the convective cell
As shown in Fig. 1, diffusion interface between convection cells is stable in terms of concentration in a gravitational field, but is thermally unstable due to the presence of a vertical temperature differential. Accordingly, it is clear that it takes the aforementioned diffusive state. It has been previously confirmed that non-flowing diffusive interfaces fall into oscillating modality. This is explained via the diffusive interface shown in Fig. 2. As heat diffusion is much faster than material diffusion, high-concentration lower fluid bodies rise due to thermal buoyancy. Afterwards, the fluid body is cooled rapidly while maintaining its concentration, and then proceeds to descend due to reversed buoyancy. The repeated occurrence of this phenomenon at the interface is known as oscillation modality. The diffusive interface between convection cells shown in Fig. 1 contains sheer currents due to thermal convection caused by horizontal temperature gradients above and below the interface. As it is possible for 3-dimensional structures to form due to the presence of sheer currents and the occurrence of oscillation modality at the interface in this sort of situation, a detailed investigation is seen as necessary. In actuality, Chen et al. [11] have reported 3-dimensional structures in cases of finger-type interfaces coexisting with sheer currents.
Oscillatory modes
In order to investigate 3-dimensional structures in diffusive interfaces in this research, 3-dimensional mathematical calculations were conducted for diffusive interfaces occurring in an aqueous solution with density stratification into a linear state, which is heated and cooled as a system from both sides in a rectangular container. In addition, the computational domain in the direction of depth is changed, and the mixing process of each convection layer was examined.
The model equations to describe the double diffusive natural convection consist of the continuity, the Navier-Stokes, the energy and the concentration equations in dimensionless forms as follows:
Dimensionless parameters Pr, Ra, Le, N and A are defined as follows:
Here, the dimensionless variables are defined as follows:
The boundary conditions in dimensionless form are illustrated in Fig.3. In the computational domain (see Fig.2), the aspect ratio is 1.25 and length of the direction of depth (Z) examined three kinds (1.0, 1.5 and 2.0). The initial temperature in the system is 0.0 and the initial concentration is linear profile: C=f (Y)

A fine difference method was employed to solve the model equations numerically. The calculation algorithm of pressure terms is the HSMAC method. To solve the mathematical model we developed a home-made code based on the HSMAC method [12,13] that utilizes the finite differences approximation: second order central finite differences for the viscous terms, third order up-wind finite differences (UTOPIA) [14] for the convective terms, and first order forward finite differences for the time derivative.
Details of the numerical algorithm are given next. The discrete form of eq. (2) is

Three-dimensional numerical result with a high spatial resolution can capture the fine structures such as salt fingers and traveling plumes. In the linear profile, near the interface, vertical motion is dominant due to salt fingers in each layer. In addition, when the computational domain changes, it has a big influence on the behaviour of plume that appears on the diffusive interface. As a result, the mixing state of the entire faction is greatly different.

The investigation of unique chemical and mechanical properties of nanostructures, e.g., fullerene, graphene, and nanotubes, promises a wide application in many technical areas. The electronic properties of the nanostructures are basically defined by their hexagonal carbon lattice structure and its variations. New promising results are expected with the preparation of more complicated forms as a wormhole. The wormhole is usually composed of two different kinds of nanostructure: two graphene sheets are connected together with the help of a connecting nanotube [1] (Figure 1). This is achieved by a supply of two sets of six heptagonal defects onto both sides of the given nanotube. There exists the restrictions on the form of the nanotube—the chirality must be \n

Recently, in work [2] some peculiarities in the bilayer graphene were analytically predicted. A possible indication of the wormhole could be found in [3, 4], where a new type of zero modes is investigated. These zero modes could be the zero modes studied in this subsection applied to the case of the smallest wormhole.
\nUp to now we supposed that the fermions appearing in the Dirac equation have the zero mass or that the mass is very small in comparison with their energy, but in [5, 6] it was shown that the Fermi velocity needs to be renormalized due to the elasticity and deformations in a graphene. In our case of the graphitic wormhole, including big deformations, the velocity of fermions close to the wormhole bridge could achieve such values that the relativistic effects can appear or break off the symmetry [7] and the mass of fermions would be non-negligible. The radius of the wormhole and its bridge is very small in comparison with the size of the upper and the lower graphene sheet (Figure 2) and by folding the sheet into a tube they acquire nonzero effective mass as they move along the tube axis. This change of the space topology of graphene from 2D to 1D space compactification is similar to the string theory compactification, and we can imagine a wormhole connecting nanotubes as 1D object.

An important measurable quantity in carbon nanostructures, which includes a nanotubular part of a graphitic wormhole, is a spin-orbit coupling (SOC) [12, 13]. If one considers this influence, two-component Dirac equation could be changed into the usual four-component form, and as a consequence chiral fermions should be detected close to the wormhole bridge.

One of the present problems in genetic engineering is the prediction of biological gene variation and the representation of corresponding genetic code. This issue emerges in the plotting graphs related to the connection curvature of a docking processes. The docking process is important in the genes of the protein structure and could be adopted instead of using a very long alphabet notation as the string sequence and the comparison of the sequences of docking. From this point of view, methods of quantum field theory, general relativity, and related tools can be of high interest. The equilibrium between the supersymmetry and the mirror symmetry of the left-handed and right-handed DNA, RNA, nucleic and amino acid molecules can be explained by anti-de Sitter (AdS) correspondence in the Yang-Mills theory and the Chern-Simon currents in biology as the curvature of the spectrum in genetic code of the protein curvature.
\nToday, a genetical structure is studied by standard alphabet codes \n
There are still attempts to perform empirical data analysis of the genetic variation [23] and to detect the pattern matching over the gene sequence by using algorithm over a standard alphabet code as their time series representation. It seems that one main problem in this field is how can we predict the genetic variation and the gene structure in the viral particle and other organisms, or in the context of new representation, the question is how we can explain the intuition behind a definition of new time series data of gene, e.g., involved in the Batalin-Vilkovisky cohomology of DNA and the viral gene structure. The Chern-Simons current and the anomaly over a superspace of cell membrane can be applied to diagnose new gene diseases, the cloning technology or the gene therapy in medicine. Moreover, a presented method can be improved also in view of describing a useless trash area of DNA, which is considered as unknown part of human genome.
\nOn the other side, another approach based on the usage of a spinor field in the Kolmogorov space of the time series data [24] over the genetic code can represent the gene structure as the ghost and anti-ghost fields of the codon and anticodon. This can be achieved in the frameworks of supersymmetry [25] and G-theory [22]. Results of the works show that all calculations over the codon can be assumed as a new superspace of the time series representation of the gene structure [24].
\nIn [26, 27, 28], we introduced a new representation of the genetic code in the time series using a modeling by strings and D-branes. By applying a spinor field to a superspace in time series data [29], the method allows us to develop supersymmetry for living organisms. In particular, it is possible to control the anomalies in the codon and anticodon ghost fields and construct an algebraic approach for the trash DNA.
\nThe “gravitational” analogy of the Chern-Simons currents in a gravitational physics, emanating from a system of DNA-RNA transcriptions, could have interesting counterparts also in biology. A representation of codons in human genome, derived from the Chern-Simons currents, can be useful in biology to explain the source of connections over protein-docking states. In this perspective, adopting cohomology in biology can be useful as a new modeling tool for plotting genes with spinor field in time series data. Especially, the junk area of DNA, with repeated inactive genes, can be represented by the Chern-Simons currents with extended structures of knot states in a Laurent polynomial of knots.
\nFurther we discuss the role of spinors in the time series of genetic code. We can denote \n

One can translate a genetic code in a codon in three steps. The translation operator of group is given by a behavior matrix in Lie group, a group of supermanifold of living organism with action in three times. It generates a codon representation as an adjoint representation over gene expression, and it is a precise definition of genetic code with parity two of ghost field and anti-ghost field in the Chern-Simons current for the representation of a gene \n
Let a knot serve as a representation of anticodon in t-RNA topological structure for amino acid \n
The above term gives the asymmetric property of chiral molecule of DNA and RNA, twisted from the left hand to the right hand in a supersymmetry breaking as knot polynomial related to the connection \n

one can induce a spinor field for representation of genetic code, where \n

Then a numerical representation for spinor field of curvature in the gene expression by the Chern-Simons action is defined as follows:
\nwhere \n
The derivation of the Chern-Simons current can be done by a simple algorithm [30], i.e., the Chern-Simons current maps the string of genetic code into numerical values by explicit formulas. It can be used to plot the time series data directly into the superspace of gene expression. We transform the alphabet string values, which cannot be computed in the classical standard definition of genetic code, into the Chern-Simons current of time series data of genetic code with \n
In each cell division, the telomeres are shortened [31], and total length of DNA is changing. As the result of shorter biological clock from cell division, the living things die. In order to understand cell cocycle and division mechanism of telomerase aging, one can explain the source of cancer as a source of age acceleration and its relationship to telomere shortening mechanism. It is a source of braid group operation [32] so-called self-diffeomorphism in the genetic code. The age acceleration is a relative measurement between the chronical clock and the biological clock in telomere. Up to now, scientists understand that a telomere and telomerase are the locations of ancient viruses that rely on DNA in the chromosomes of living organisms. Telomere is composed of the repeated sequence of \n

The spin-orbit coupling is an important quantity, which is measurable in the carbon nanostructures, including the graphitic wormhole (or its nanotubular part); it can also help to identify the wormhole structure in details. SOC in a graphene could be induced by the nonzero curvature; in the particular case of the wormhole with negative curvature, the chiral fermions penetrating through the connecting nanotube in the wormhole structure could be created. The two-component Dirac equation is changed into the usual four-component form. As a consequence, the chiral fermions should be detected close to the wormhole bridge; the effect is stronger if the radius of the wormhole bridge is smaller. Moreover, one can detect permanently oriented flow when the chiral fermions prefer only one direction of the massive or massless fermionic current from the upper graphene sheet to the lower one, depending on the wormhole curvature.
\nWe also describe the role of spinor fields in the time series of genetic code. The reversed transcription process of the gene expression could be defined by a moduli state space model of a coupling spinor field between the gene of a viral particle and the host cell. As a general result, all states of codon can be computed by the Chern-Simons 3-forms. The Chern-Simons current, coming from ghost and anti-ghost fields of supersymmetry theory, can be used to define a spectrum of gene expression in new time series data where a spinor field, as alternative representation of a gene, is adopted instead of using the alphabet sequence of standard bases \n

This cognitive impairment affects the long-term prognosis and has been shown to be associated with long-term disability, higher health care costs, and even increased mortality. On the other hand, clinical research on POCD is in its infancy, the condition has not been clarified, and since no strategy for management is currently available, it is imperative to develop specific methods for prevention and management. Although its pathogenesis involves various factors, accumulating evidence suggests that surgery elicits an inflammatory response in the hippocampus, a brain area closely related to cognitive function, playing a key role in the development of POCD. Several studies suggest that age-related phenotypic change of microglia is associated with pathogenic neuroinflammation, and more importantly it may be modifiable. In this chapter, we discuss the current overview and preclinical highlights regarding POCD. It should be considered that intubation may be required when evaluating the patient, and that in the long term, airway protection will be needed or that the problem cannot be solved by noninvasive ventilation via airway aids and devices. Identifying the problem causing the patient’s respiratory failure helps in making the decision to intubate. In fact, the clinician must be fast and self-confident when deciding on intubation. It is difficult to decide in some complex situations. It is very important to evaluate the patient, according to clinical status, age, and comorbidity, and to determine urgent intubation need. In non-diagnostic cases, further research is needed to investigate the causes of the condition such as hypoxia/hypercapnia resulting in patient respiratory distress. Different voice tone, swallowing difficulties, coughing attacks, stridor, dyspnea can be a sign of upper airway obstruction. Arterial blood gas analysis will facilitate our decision to make intubation. Non-invasive pulse oximetry and continuous capnography values may also be a guide, but the most important thing is that delayed intubation decision may bring life-threatening situations.",book:{id:"6495",slug:"tracheal-intubation",title:"Tracheal Intubation",fullTitle:"Tracheal Intubation"},signatures:"Yeliz Şahiner",authors:[{id:"236458",title:"Dr.",name:"Yeliz",middleName:null,surname:"Şahiner",slug:"yeliz-sahiner",fullName:"Yeliz Şahiner"}]},{id:"64750",title:"Perioperative Complications in Plastic Surgery",slug:"perioperative-complications-in-plastic-surgery",totalDownloads:1398,totalCrossrefCites:0,totalDimensionsCites:0,abstract:"Anesthetic complications in the perioperative period in plastic surgery are extremely rare, although they can be catastrophic and sometimes fatal. The proper selection and correct preoperative assessment of patients are the key to stay away from unwanted events. Preanesthesia evaluation is mandatory in each patient and must include clinical history, complete physical examination, and routine and special laboratory tests in patients with associated pathologies. Anesthetic management is based on these results, type of surgery, experience of the anesthesiologist, and the operating environment. The anesthetic technique can be local, regional, or general with standard noninvasive monitoring. It is recommended that an anesthesiologist be present in all plastic surgery procedures. Complications are usually the result of moving away from the guidelines already established for an excellent practice or the result of sentinel events rather than human errors. Pulmonary embolism is probably the most feared complication, with soft tissue infections being the most frequent complication in plastic surgery. Less common complications include arrhythmias, overhydration, allergies, bleeding, skin necrosis, dehiscence of wounds, brain damage, and dead. Biochemistry examines macromolecules - proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and lipids – and their building blocks, structures, functions, and interactions. Much of biochemistry is devoted to enzymes, proteins that catalyze chemical reactions, enzyme structures, mechanisms of action and their roles within cells. Biochemistry also studies small signaling molecules, coenzymes, inhibitors, vitamins, and hormones, which play roles in life processes. Biochemical experimentation, besides coopting classical chemistry methods, e.g., chromatography, adopted new techniques, e.g., X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, NMR, radioisotopes, and developed sophisticated microbial genetic tools, e.g., auxotroph mutants and their revertants, fermentation, etc. More recently, biochemistry embraced the ‘big data’ omics systems. Initial biochemical studies have been exclusively analytic: dissecting, purifying, and examining individual components of a biological system; in the apt words of Efraim Racker (1913 –1991), “Don’t waste clean thinking on dirty enzymes.” Today, however, biochemistry is becoming more agglomerative and comprehensive, setting out to integrate and describe entirely particular biological systems. The ‘big data’ metabolomics can define the complement of small molecules, e.g., in a soil or biofilm sample; proteomics can distinguish all the comprising proteins, e.g., serum; metagenomics can identify all the genes in a complex environment, e.g., the bovine rumen. This Biochemistry Series will address the current research on biomolecules and the emerging trends with great promise.",coverUrl:"https://cdn.intechopen.com/series/covers/11.jpg",latestPublicationDate:"July 5th, 2022",hasOnlineFirst:!0,numberOfPublishedBooks:32,editor:{id:"31610",title:"Dr.",name:"Miroslav",middleName:null,surname:"Blumenberg",slug:"miroslav-blumenberg",fullName:"Miroslav Blumenberg",profilePictureURL:"https://mts.intechopen.com/storage/users/31610/images/system/31610.jpg",biography:"Miroslav Blumenberg, Ph.D., was born in Subotica and received his BSc in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. Fungal infectious illness prevalence and prognosis are determined by the exposure between fungi and host, host immunological state, fungal virulence, and early and accurate diagnosis and treatment. \r\nPatients with both congenital and acquired immunodeficiency are more likely to be infected with opportunistic mycosis. Fungal infectious disease outbreaks are common during the post- disaster rebuilding era, which is characterised by high population density, migration, and poor health and medical conditions.\r\nSystemic or local fungal infection is mainly associated with the fungi directly inhaled or inoculated in the environment during the disaster. The most common fungal infection pathways are human to human (anthropophilic), animal to human (zoophilic), and environment to human (soilophile). Diseases are common as a result of widespread exposure to pathogenic fungus dispersed into the environment. \r\nFungi that are both common and emerging are intertwined. In Southeast Asia, for example, Talaromyces marneffei is an important pathogenic thermally dimorphic fungus that causes systemic mycosis. Widespread fungal infections with complicated and variable clinical manifestations, such as Candida auris infection resistant to several antifungal medicines, Covid-19 associated with Trichoderma, and terbinafine resistant dermatophytosis in India, are among the most serious disorders. \r\nInappropriate local or systemic use of glucocorticoids, as well as their immunosuppressive effects, may lead to changes in fungal infection spectrum and clinical characteristics. Hematogenous candidiasis is a worrisome issue that affects people all over the world, particularly ICU patients. CARD9 deficiency and fungal infection have been major issues in recent years. Invasive aspergillosis is associated with a significant death rate. Special attention should be given to endemic fungal infections, identification of important clinical fungal infections advanced in yeasts, filamentous fungal infections, skin mycobiome and fungal genomes, and immunity to fungal infections.\r\nIn addition, endemic fungal diseases or uncommon fungal infections caused by Mucor irregularis, dermatophytosis, Malassezia, cryptococcosis, chromoblastomycosis, coccidiosis, blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, sporotrichosis, and other fungi, should be monitored. \r\nThis topic includes the research progress on the etiology and pathogenesis of fungal infections, new methods of isolation and identification, rapid detection, drug sensitivity testing, new antifungal drugs, schemes and case series reports. It will provide significant opportunities and support for scientists, clinical doctors, mycologists, antifungal drug researchers, public health practitioners, and epidemiologists from all over the world to share new research, ideas and solutions to promote the development and progress of medical mycology.",coverUrl:"https://cdn.intechopen.com/series_topics/covers/4.jpg",keywords:"Emerging Fungal Pathogens, Invasive Infections, Epidemiology, Cell Membrane, Fungal Virulence, Diagnosis, Treatment"},{id:"5",title:"Parasitic Infectious Diseases",scope:"Parasitic diseases have evolved alongside their human hosts. In many cases, these diseases have adapted so well that they have developed efficient resilience methods in the human host and can live in the host for years. Others, particularly some blood parasites, can cause very acute diseases and are responsible for millions of deaths yearly. Many parasitic diseases are classified as neglected tropical diseases because they have received minimal funding over recent years and, in many cases, are under-reported despite the critical role they play in morbidity and mortality among human and animal hosts. The current topic, Parasitic Infectious Diseases, in the Infectious Diseases Series aims to publish studies on the systematics, epidemiology, molecular biology, genomics, pathogenesis, genetics, and clinical significance of parasitic diseases from blood borne to intestinal parasites as well as zoonotic parasites. We hope to cover all aspects of parasitic diseases to provide current and relevant research data on these very important diseases. In the current atmosphere of the Coronavirus pandemic, communities around the world, particularly those in different underdeveloped areas, are faced with the growing challenges of the high burden of parasitic diseases. At the same time, they are faced with the Covid-19 pandemic leading to what some authors have called potential syndemics that might worsen the outcome of such infections. Therefore, it is important to conduct studies that examine parasitic infections in the context of the coronavirus pandemic for the benefit of all communities to help foster more informed decisions for the betterment of human and animal health.",coverUrl:"https://cdn.intechopen.com/series_topics/covers/5.jpg",keywords:"Blood Borne Parasites, Intestinal Parasites, Protozoa, Helminths, Arthropods, Water Born Parasites, Epidemiology, Molecular Biology, Systematics, Genomics, Proteomics, Ecology"},{id:"6",title:"Viral Infectious Diseases",scope:"The Viral Infectious Diseases Book Series aims to provide a comprehensive overview of recent research trends and discoveries in various viral infectious diseases emerging around the globe. This Biochemistry Series will address the current research on biomolecules and the emerging trends with great promise.",coverUrl:"https://cdn.intechopen.com/series/covers/11.jpg",latestPublicationDate:"July 5th, 2022",hasOnlineFirst:!0,numberOfOpenTopics:4,numberOfPublishedChapters:319,numberOfPublishedBooks:32,editor:{id:"31610",title:"Dr.",name:"Miroslav",middleName:null,surname:"Blumenberg",fullName:"Miroslav Blumenberg",profilePictureURL:"https://mts.intechopen.com/storage/users/31610/images/system/31610.jpg",biography:"Miroslav Blumenberg, Ph.D., was born in Subotica and received his BSc in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. Thus proteomics, an area of research that detects all protein forms expressed in an organism, including splice isoforms and post-translational modifications, is more suitable than genomics for a comprehensive understanding of the biochemical processes that govern life. The most common proteomics applications are currently in the clinical field for the identification, in a variety of biological matrices, of biomarkers for diagnosis and therapeutic intervention of disorders. From the comparison of proteomic profiles of control and disease or different physiological states, which may emerge, changes in protein expression can provide new insights into the roles played by some proteins in human pathologies. Understanding how proteins function and interact with each other is another goal of proteomics that makes this approach even more intriguing. Specialized technology and expertise are required to assess the proteome of any biological sample. Currently, proteomics relies mainly on mass spectrometry (MS) combined with electrophoretic (1 or 2-DE-MS) and/or chromatographic techniques (LC-MS/MS). MS is an excellent tool that has gained popularity in proteomics because of its ability to gather a complex body of information such as cataloging protein expression, identifying protein modification sites, and defining protein interactions. The Proteomics topic aims to attract contributions on all aspects of MS-based proteomics that, by pushing the boundaries of MS capabilities, may address biological problems that have not been resolved yet.",annualVolume:11414,isOpenForSubmission:!0,coverUrl:"https://cdn.intechopen.com/series_topics/covers/18.jpg",editor:{id:"200689",title:"Prof.",name:"Paolo",middleName:null,surname:"Iadarola",fullName:"Paolo Iadarola",profilePictureURL:"https://s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/intech-files/0030O00002bSCl8QAG/Profile_Picture_1623568118342",institutionString:null,institution:{name:"University of Pavia",institutionURL:null,country:{name:"Italy"}}},editorTwo:{id:"201414",title:"Dr.",name:"Simona",middleName:null,surname:"Viglio",fullName:"Simona Viglio",profilePictureURL:"https://s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/intech-files/0030O00002bRKDHQA4/Profile_Picture_1630402531487",institutionString:null,institution:{name:"University of Pavia",institutionURL:null,country:{name:"Italy"}}},editorThree:null,editorialBoard:[{id:"72288",title:"Dr.",name:"Arli Aditya",middleName:null, surname:"Parikesit",fullName:"Arli Aditya Parikesit",profilePictureURL:"https://mts.intechopen.com/storage/users/72288/images/system/72288.jpg",institutionString:null,institution:{name:"Indonesia International Institute for Life Sciences",institutionURL:null,country:{name:"Indonesia"}}},{id:"40928",title:"Dr.",name:"Cesar",middleName:null,surname:"Lopez-Camarillo",fullName:"Cesar Lopez-Camarillo",profilePictureURL:"https://mts.intechopen.com/storage/users/40928/images/3884_n.png",institutionString:null,institution:{name:"Universidad Autónoma de la Ciudad de México",institutionURL:null,country:{name:"Mexico"}}},{id:"81926",title:"Dr.",name:"Shymaa",middleName:null,surname:"Enany",fullName:"Shymaa Enany",profilePictureURL:"https://mts.intechopen.com/storage/users/81926/images/system/81926.png",institutionString:"Suez Canal University",institution:{name:"Suez Canal University",institutionURL:null,country:{name:"Egypt"}}}]}]}},libraryRecommendation:{success:null,errors:{},institutions:[]},route:{name:"chapter.detail",path:"/chapters/48672",hash:"",query:{},params:{id:"48672"},fullPath:"/chapters/48672",meta:{},from:{name:null,path:"/",hash:"",query:{},params:{},fullPath:"/",meta:{}}}},function(){var m;(m=document.currentScript||document.scripts[document.scripts.length-1]).parentNode.removeChild(m)}()
