Antenna arrays play a significant role in the current and future radars and communication systems. The goal of the array pattern optimization is to efficiently determine the array parameters such as element type, element location, complex weighting (amplitude and/or phase), array size and shape, etc. that will lead to the desired radiation pattern. The shape of the desired pattern may vary widely depending on the application. This book will present recent advances in the field of array pattern optimization. It is concerned with suppressing the sidelobe level while preserving the gain of the main beam, null control to reduce the effects of interference and jamming signals, simplifying the complexity of the feeding network, reduction of the mutual coupling on the desired array pattern, 5G impact and others. Several analytical and optimization methods have been successfully used in the design of antenna arrays. Currently, there is no specific book that comprehensively deals with this important subject. Thus, it is important to collect the recent advances in this area, the challenges, and the future trends in a coherent book presentation. This book intends to provide the reader with a comprehensive overview of the current state-of-the-art array pattern optimization research, the main challenges, and the opportunities that occur.
