Dr. Caniato is an environmental engineer with a specialty in designing and monitoring environmental, architectural, and building acoustics. In collaboration with the University of Trieste, Dr. Caniato has invented and patented an extract from agar with plastic powders, derived from marine plastic waste, effective as thermal and acoustic insulation for industrial, and maritime applications. This biopolymer has proven to be promising in the battle against the dispersion of microplastics in the environment.

Research fellow at the University of Trieste, Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences at the University of Ferrara with a thesis in Building Acoustics under the supervision of Prof. Patrizio Fausti. Dr. Bettarello is an experienced and competent technician in environmental acoustics and winner of the Italo Barducci 2008 Award of the Italian Acoustics Association.

About the book

The quest to ensure noise control in buildings as well as industrial, automotive, and outdoor environments is nowadays an active challenge. New materials, a new combination of layers, new numerical models, tools, and studies can help to find new and innovative solutions to guarantee human well-being and noise pollution protection. Anyway, noise is mostly produced by human activities and thus needs to be controlled. It is known that prolonged exposure to high noise levels can cause annoyance and disturbance to receivers, which then can suffer even for a lifetime period. For these reasons, researchers, scientist, and practitioners try their best to support everyday life with robust and reliable solutions as well as new approaches to manage noise control issues.

In this light, this book intends to represent a comprehensive collection of the most important evidence-based works and developments which directly deal with the presented issues, focused on human well-being as the final aim.

Book initiated and editor appointed

Date completed: November 24th 2021

Applications to edit the book are assessed and a suitable editor is selected, at which point the process begins.

Chapter proposals submitted and reviewed

Deadline for chapter proposals: December 22nd 2021

Potential authors submit chapter proposals ready for review by the academic editor and our publishing review team.

Register for the book

Approved chapters written in full and submitted

Deadline for full chapters: February 20th 2022

Once approved by the academic editor and publishing review team, chapters are written and submitted according to pre-agreed parameters

Full chapters peer reviewed

Review results due: May 11th 2022

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: July 10th 2022

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

Dr. Marco Caniato is an internationally-oriented scientist with 10 years of experience in well-known Italian universities. His research is focused on the effects of materials thermal and acoustic insulation and behavior. Specifically, his interests are addressed to their influence on human beings' comfort. Dr. Caniato published more than 80 papers, including conference proceedings, journal papers, and book chapters. He is also the inventor of 6 registered patents and often he is appointed organizer in several international congresses.
