About the book

Space exploration of the Solar System represents the next frontier for mankind. Lack of human activities beyond the low Earth orbits pushes to new research efforts in the light of new planetary explorations. Missions to asteroids, Moon, and planets are currently under development by several Space Agencies and Research centers all over the world. Today the red planet is the most investigated planet of the Solar System for its great similarity with Earth. Therefore, after the Moon conquest, Mars represents the next target of Human exploration. Man-rated missions to Mars, however, are still demanding and challenging so robotic missions in order to gain further knowledge and high technology readiness levels are suggested. In this framework, this book deals with Mars exploration. All fundamental topics for such an exploration mission to be successful are provided and discussed in the book. Among others, the attention is on mission design, space exploration requirements and constraints, astrodynamics, planetary entry dynamics, spacecraft aerodynamics, and aerothermodynamics.

This book intends to provide the reader, like students, engineers, and researches, with a comprehensive overview of the current state-of-the-art in Mars exploration, featuring an easy-to-follow way and support that focuses on the most important evidence-based developments in this critically important area of Space exploration.

Introducing your Author Service Manager

Mr. Josip Knapic

As an Author Service Manager my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review, to approval and revision, copy-editing and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
