Dr. Avci is Research Professor of Physics and the Founder and the Director of the Imaging and Chemical Analysis Laboratory (ICAL: www.physics.montana.edu/ical) at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana. This laboratory serves a wide variety of the people from wide variety of disciplines regionally, nationally and internationally. He received his BS in Physics & Math at Istanbul University and his PhD in Solid State Physics at the University of Illinois in Urbana, Illinois, USA. His area of expertise include study of fundamental and applied aspects of bulk and bio-materials and of surfaces and interfaces using a wide variety of spectroscopic and microscopic techniques. Current interests include immunoimmobilization and manipulation of individual live micro¬organisms in their physiological environment in order to observe their responses to external stimuli and to observe the byproducts of their activities in and around the local environment, including the bio-deterioration of materials. Dr. Avci has brought in over 5 million dollar grant money over the last 8 years and has over 100 publications in wide variety of fields.
