Horacio Ahuett-Garza

Horacio Ahuett Garza is a professor and researcher of the School of Engineering and Sciences at Tecnológico de Monterrey, with an appointment in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Campus Monterrey. Dr. Ahuett is also the leader of the Automotive Consortium Focus Group of this Institution. His lines of interest are the design of machines and mechatronic systems, particularly applied to manufacturing applications, and he teaches courses in Machine Design and Precision Engineering. Among the specific topics of his research include: advanced design techniques for the configuration of high speed–high accuracy mechatronic machines, deep learning applied to the design of mechanical components fabricated with additive manufacturing techniques, and machine behavior diagnostics through analysis of data in the cloud. Dr. Ahuett is a member of CONACYT National System of Researchers (SNI), level 2. He is also a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences. He is author and co-author in over 80 scientific or technical publications and book chapters. He is listed as co-inventor in 4 patents, and CONACYT credits him with 3 technological developments. Dr. Ahuett holds a Ph.D. and a M.Sc. from The Ohio State University, which he obtained in 1996 and 1992, respectively. Prior to that, he obtained a B.S. in electro-mechanical engineering at ITESM Campus Monterrey. Among his previous appointments, Dr. Ahuett was chairman of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Monterrey (2008-2014). He was also director of the Center for Manufacturing Systems at ITESM, Campus León (1999-2000). From 1987 to 1990, Dr. Ahuett worked at Fabricación de Máquinas S.A. (FAMA) of Grupo Vitro, in the Machinery Division.
